Junior soccer - weekend of June 29

THE coaches of New Norfolk's junior soccer teams report on last weekend's matches.

Under 6 Red played a great game against Metro at Metro. Many thanks to Amber Rainbird and Gemma White from Under 6 Black for filling in for our sick players. The team played well together in the cold – a couple of kids even decided to stop and have a chat. The next minute they were in fits of laughter! Thank you Ben Rainbird (Under 6 Black) and Janelle Maw (Under 6 White coach) for helping us out at short notice.

Under 6 Black played on Friday night at Metro. It was a great effort from Amber Rainbird and Gemma White who played two matches that night. Good work girls.

Under 6 White played a very competitive game against Bagdad. Liam scored two goals for the team and Tristan showed some fancy footwork to control the ball.

Under 7 Red had a bye.

Under 7 Black had a great game against Brighton Gold at Brighton. Everyone showed great teamwork with Jacob Priest playing especially well.

Under 7 White had a home game in the lovely winter sunshine. The team put up a good battle against Brighton Maroon who were a bit too good on the day. Two goals to Cale and one to Jacob.

Under 8 had a bye.

Under 9 had a win against Bagdad 7-0. Goal kickers Jacob 2, Ostyn 2, Maddy 2 and Alex Gunn. Goalies Luke and Alex McMillan made some great saves.  We need to say a big thank you to the six players who played a half each for Bagdad due to only five of their team turning up and also a thank you to Jack Moodie who filled in for Bagdad when one of their players was injured. Well done everyone.

Under 10 defeated Metro at home. All players should be congratulated for showing great skill and sportsmanship throughout the challenging game. A special mention must go to Levi for continuing after a rough start. Goal scorers were Levi 4, Jed 4, and Blake.

Under 11 had their first win of the season against Brighton. Congratulations to Samantha on her first goal. The other goal scorers were Cody 6 and Jacob Maw. Everyone deserves a mention for this game! Josh in goals, Adam and Jacob Maw in defence, Lily right mid, Samantha centre mid, Monique left mid and Jacob Harback and Cody both forward positions. Well done!

Under 14C had a 5-2 win against Derwent United at Tynwald Park in a well matched game. Josh Cahalan and Campbell Evans consistently took the ball forward with good passing from their teammates while Jacob George showed a greater level of self-confidence in his body use and determination to get the ball. Goal scorers were Jayden Bartels 2, Jordan Bailey 2 and Daniel Groom.

Under 14D played Nelson in an exciting game. Josh Russell opened the scoring with Nathan Coleman then adding to the tally after a huge run out of defence, kicking his first ever goal. Congratulations Nate! Josh Russell added a third for a 3-0 score line at half time. Nelson came out hard in the second half with Adam Blackwell making some great saves when the opposition wasn’t thwarted by Jack Rose’s defensive skills.  Blake Priest converted the fourth, rewarding Jakeb Rhodes' dogged determination in bringing the ball up from centre. Nelson was rewarded with a goal in the dying seconds of the game, but the home team’s good work made it a 4-1 victory for New Norfolk.
