Initial Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 3:15 pm on Sunday 6 November 2016

Flood Warning Number: 1
Minor flooding may develop in the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam during Monday. Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk. River rises are currently being observed along the River Derwent.
In the 48 hours to 9 am Sunday, rainfall totals of 50 to 70 mm have been reported about the upper reaches of the catchment. A further 10 to 20 mm is forecast for this area again overnight Sunday, with higher totals possible about elevated areas.
Strong flows will remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment for the next few days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises are occurring in the upper reaches of the River Derwent above River Ouse. Lake King William continues to spill resulting in elevated river levels downstream.

River Ouse:

River levels in the River Ouse are expected to remain below minor flood levels in to Monday.

River Clyde:

River levels in the River Clyde are expected to remain below minor flood levels in to Monday.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are occurring in the middle reaches of the River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam.

Tyenna River:

Small rises have been observed in the Tyenna River.

Styx River:

Small rises have been observed in the Styx River.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is expected along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 3.48 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam may exceed the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Monday.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.22 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Monday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk during Monday.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Monday.
