Councillor stands with Palmer United

Wayne Shoobridge
A SECOND Derwent Valley councillor has been named as a candidate in next month's State Election. Wayne Shoobridge will contest the division of Lyons as an endorsed candidate for the Palmer United Party.

Mr Shoobridge, of New Norfolk, joins a growing list of locals who have put forward their names for what is likely to be one of the most keenly contested State Elections in decades.

Other confirmed New Norfolk candidates include Mr Shoobridge's council colleague Martyn Evans who is an endorsed Liberal Party candidate. Also from New Norfolk is the Australian Labor Party candidate Jessey Dillon, and the independent candidate Paul Belcher who started his campaigning some months ago. Tasmanian Greens deputy leader Tim Morris MHA is another New Norfolk resident and will be seeking to retain his seat, having topped the poll in Lyons in 2010.

Mr Shoobridge's profile on the Palmer United website states that employment is the key issue facing Tasmania. “The key issues here in Tasmania are jobs, jobs, jobs,” Mr Shoobridge says on the website. Read the full profile here.

All other intending candidates for Lyons are welcome to send a profile and photo to the New Norfolk News.

  1. This candidate has the usual problem with all candidates in this election: their platforms consist of slogans with no indication of how they intend to achieve things. While he drones on about "jobs, jobs, jobs" he has no policy or strategy to actually make this happen.
It might be in the PDF document, but his website is broken, so you don't get to see it.

  2. The Policies will be released at the Campaign Launch scheduled for March 1st. And as per the other parties they don't release their policies until they are ready
