IN the match of the round in second grade, arch-rivals New Norfolk I and Gretna I played a classic game at Tynwald Park with the Red Caps winning by 13 runs. The home side had first hit, making the great score of 10 for 256. R. Graham batted very well making a fine 72 with nine well-struck fours. Jamie Maddox is always handy with the bat and contributed a well-made 40. In their last three overs the Red Caps put on valuable runs which made the difference at the end. Daniel Browning and Craig Cunningham bowled well capturing three and two wickets respectively. In the run chase Gretna started slowly and at one stage were 4-66 with Damien Hack, the fourth batsman out, making 47. From here Glenn Blackwell 75 and Ben Rainbird 70 put on a partnership of 122 and when Rainbird was out the score was 5-188. Gretna edged closer and wanted about a run a ball for the final four overs with four wickets in hand, but it wasn't to be. They were bowled out in the final over, giving New Norfolk victory and a 12 point buffer on top of the ladder. Stewart Rice is having a stellar season with the bat and took 4-58 while Josh Dykes 2-30 and Jamie Maddox took 2-57. This match ensures plenty of interest in the next matches with the top five teams all playing each other over the next four weeks. An interesting finals series beckons!

In the second grade match at Runnymede, Molesworth I defeated the home side by four wickets. Runnymede knocked up the good score of 221, but the Molesworth batsmen led by their captain Brad Coppleman with a fine 86 reached the target with seven overs remaining. Nick Piuselli put in a good innings of 43 while Brayden Hodge was the main wicket-taker with 3-12 and Chris Slater 2-24.

In the third match in second grade, Bushy Park went down to Sandford by 212 runs. Young Trent Grant tried his hardest all day, top-scoring with 17. He also did well with the ball, taking 2-37 off his 10 overs.
It just wasn't a good day for the Bushy Park boys who played one short and five batsmen failed to score. A few wins in the last four rounds could be the start for next season. Hang in there.

In the fourth grade match, Gretna at home easily accounted for Bagdad. The visitors won the toss and sent Gretna in who made a great score 9 for 284 off 50 overs. Leading the way with the bat was Brian Smith with a fine 74 and captain Joey Eyles 50 and a quickfire 25no from Tommy Allcock from down the order. Gretna was also assisted by Bagdad's bowling a massive 42 wides. In reply the visitors were dismissed for 125 with spin bowler Matthew Eyles being the main wicket taker with 5-25.

In fifth grade, Molesworth II hung on to its finals chances with a excellent eight-wicket win over Dynnyrne at Cadburys. The Molesworth bowlers did very well and kept the home side to a modest 9-161. Brad Ransley was captain for the day and led very well, taking 3-35 of 10 overs. Jye County and Dean King supported well with two wickets each. In reply, young dynamo Cody Neads stole the show with a glistering 86 runs. Neads smashed 76 of his total in boundaries. He can't be far away from a call up to second grade? Another youngster, Brayden Chaplin, made a good 32no with six well-struck fours. A very good win.
