Severe Weather Warning
for damaging winds for people in the Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts
Issued at 9:26 am EDT on Thursday 20 February 2014.
Damaging winds are forecast for all of Tasmania except for King Island.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system to the south of Tasmania will intensify this afternoon before moving away to the east overnight.
Damaging westerly winds around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 100km/h are forecast for the Furneaux Islands, North East, Central Plateau, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts and parts of the North West Coast, Central North, Western and Midlands forecast districts from late afternoon.
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Take care when driving on exposed roads, bridges and causeways. Remain indoors as much as possible.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES on 13 25 00.
The next warning will be issued by 5pm Thursday.
