THIS week's Derwent Valley Council workshop has been cancelled due to it falling the day before Good Friday. This month's council meeting held at Bushy Park unanimously supported a proposal that no workshops be scheduled on the Thursday night prior to Good Friday.
The next workshops will be held in the New Norfolk Courthouse at 6.30pm on April 9 and 23. The present format for council workshops starts with an open session which the general public is invited to attend for the first half-hour. The remainder of the workshop is closed to the public. As these are informal sessions, no agenda is provided.

- The new supermarket is substantially bigger in floorspace than the closest Woolies at Bridgewater.
- As many as 50 additional employees (30 full-time equivalents) have been employed to staff the new supermarket.
- There will be self-service checkouts in addition to the traditional checkouts.
- In addition to having an in-house bakery, customers will be able to order a pizza and have it cooked while they shop.
- Trading hours are likely to be 7am-10pm seven days a week.

Molesworth cricket premiers twice over
MOLESWORTH Cricket Club won both of the Southern Cricket Association grand finals it played in yesterday.
- Molesworth I defeated Montagu Bay in the second grade premiership played at Boyer Oval in New Norfolk.
- Molesworth II defeated Knights in the fifth grade premiership that was played at Richmond after a last-minute relocation from Cambridge.

High school boasts state's best MDT gear
UPGRADED Materials, Design and Technology (MDT) facilities were officially opened at New Norfolk High School earlier this month. Local students now have access to one of the most sophisticated technology learning areas in Tasmania that will equip them with new skills for an emerging job market.
Education and Training Minister Jeremy Rockliff MHA said the $500,000 upgrade included new computers, software and routers to assist students with design and drawing. "There's also a computer numerically-controlled booth, electronic smart board, woodturning booth, new metal and woodworking equipment and upgrades of the basics like benches, tools and lighting," Mr Rockliff said.
"Importantly, for the first time, students can use computer-driven routers that are capable of shaping a variety of commercial products and materials such as soft metals, brass, stainless steel, timber and stone. This means students can create, design and produce a finished product from their one-stop workshop. This is a great boost for all the Year 7 and 8 students who do MDT, and the great number of students who choose to study this as an elective in Year 9 and 10."

POLICE have advised motorists to avoid the Bridgewater Bridge. The lift span is jammed in the open position and work is under way to fix the problem. Traffic is reportedly backed up for kilometres in both directions.
Metro Tasmania has advised that buses its buses will not be able to cross the bridge for two hours and urges its passengers to join buses travelling via the Bowen Bridge.

Two Molesworth teams in cricket grand finals
"In Second Grade, Molesworth I will defeat Montagu Bay by one run/wicket off the last over of the match in an absolute thriller at Boyer Oval. These two have played twice this season with Molesworth winning both. The last encounter was the Qualifying Final," he says.
"Brad Coppleman has made scores of 66 and 44 against the Sharks this season and I'm saying he will top-score with 70 runs in yet another fine display of batting and also be named man if the match. Josh Ransley will make 40 runs. I'm tipping Dean King to bring out his white line fever and ruffle a few feathers and give his home town crowd plenty to sprout about taking 4-23 off 10. Captain Jamie Adams and opener Brad Coppleman to also take wickets."
In Fifth Grade, Molesworth I is tipped to get revenge over the Knights and win by three wickets. "Brad Ransley is batting well at the right time and will make 50 runs, while the up and about Sam Triffitt will have another big match and make 45 runs. Aaron Triffitt will take three wickets, as will Brad Ransley and also be named man of the match."
The last time both Molesworth teams played in a grand final in the same season was back in the Derwent Valley Cricket Association in 1995/96 with Molesworth II getting up but Molesworth I was defeated. The last time both teams won the grand final in the same season was 1993/94 which was Molesworth I's first A-Grade premiership in the DVCA.

Fifth Grade preliminary final
After a close two-wicket win over Dynnyrne at Cambridge Oval on Saturday, Molesworth II is now through to the Fifth Grade grand final. In what was a relatively low-scoring match, Molesworth showed it has what it takes when the pressure is on.
Batting first, Dynnyrne made 10 for 148. This small total was due to some excellent bowling from the Molesworth attack, particularly captain Sam Triffitt who sent down 6.5 overs to capture 5-27 and Jye County who bowled 8 overs for 3-18. The pair kept the opposition right in check right to the end. Ever reliable Chris Slater also applied the pressure with a fine spell of tight bowling finishing with 1-16 off 9 overs. Aaron Triffitt also picked up a wicket.
In reply, Molesworth got off to a great start with openers Brad Ransley (39 runs) and Jacksyn Mann (21 runs) putting on a solid 64-run partnership. Sam Triffitt made it an even better effort with a very handy 23, while Jake Foster did likewise with 15. At the end it was Aaron Triffitt with 10 not out and Tyson Gray 4 not out who finished off the match a great result for the club.

After finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the season, the finals series saw Richmond/Cambridge bundled out in straight sets. Molesworth I will now play Montagu Bay in the grand final at Boyer Oval. Scores: Montagu Bay 5 for 205 off 49 overs (7 extras) d. Richmond/Cambridge 10 for 204 off 50 overs (12 extras) at Richmond.
Farewell Cheryl Rainbird
Sincere condolences to the Rainbird and Cashion families on the passing of Cheryl Rainbird last week. Cheryl was a former secretary of the Gretna Cricket Club with husband Peter for 23 years and was made a life member in 2004. Cheryl's dedication and tireless work for the club will always be remembered.

Young man dies after Bothwell crash
POLICE have advised that a 23-year-old man from Bothwell has died in the Royal Hobart Hospital from injuries received in the single vehicle crash on the Highland Lakes Rd, 14.5km north of Bothwell, at about 8.35 on Friday night.
"The male was the sole occupant of a 2006 white Nissan Patrol utility which was travelling north on Highland Lakes Rd which left the roadway and rolled after failing to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road," crash investigator Constable Adam Hall said.
Constable Hall said the man had been thrown from the vehicle when it rolled. He was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the rescue helicopter but died of his injuries late yesterday afternoon.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or seen the vehicle prior to the incident. Phone 131 444.

Forest burns planned today
FORESTRY Tasmania has announced that it may conducted two forest regeneration burns in the Derwent Valley today (Sunday). The burns are being considered southwest Bushy Park and south of Westerway. Smoke from these burns is forecast to travel in a southerly direction.
These burns will be visible initially from Westerway, National Park, Gretna and Bushy Park. The smoke is currently forecast to travel away from major population centres but may become visible from adjoining Huon and Channel communities later this afternoon.

Crash closes Lakes highway
EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a single vehicle accident on Highland Lake Rd, Bothwell. The male occupant is in a serious condition and will be airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Police say there is no indication at this time of the cause of the accident. Motorists should avoid the area as the road is expected to be closed for several hours while accident investigation services examine the scene.
This incident was reported just before 10pm.

Finals fortunes tipped
DERWENT Valley Gazette cricket columnist Quick Single is sticking with the local teams in his tips for tomorrow's Southern Cricket Association finals.
- Bushy Park to defeat arch rival DOSA in a close Third Grade encounter at Eady St tomorrow. These sides have played three times this season with DOSA leading 2-1, winning the last encounter which was the qualifying final. Being in excellent form and scoring 287 runs against DOSA this season, Mitch Crosswell will make another big score while Trent Grant will claim three top-order batsmen in a tight spell of bowling. Shaun Fenton to take five catches behind the stumps.
- In Fifth Grade at Cambridge Oval tomorrow, Molesworth II to knock over Dynnyrne in a hard fought match. Brad Ransley will get amongst the runs making a very valuable half century, while Chris Slater will also make 60 with the bat and also take four wickets in a great all round effort.

THE Derwent Valley Council's monthly meeting for March will be held at Bushy Park tonight (Thursday), starting with a community forum at 6.30pm followed by the regular council meeting at 7pm. The day was enjoyed by all and the club thanked all players, parents and coaches for another great season.

Second Grade second semi-final
After another match-winning century by Brad Coppleman and some great bowling from Brayden Hodge and Martyn Evans, Molesworth I is into its fifth straight Second Grade grand final. Coppleman, who made his third hundred for the season (and the second against Richmond/Cambridge), has been in superb form scoring 935 runs thus far. After winning the toss on Saturday and batting, Molesworth hit up the great total of 7 for 251 from 50 overs.
In an even batting display behind Coppleman, Jake King made 31 with 5x4s, captain Jamie Adams got 26 while Brayden Hodge made 23 not out. In reply, the home side gave it their best shot, but fell 30 runs short. This was due to some great bowling by Martyn Evans who captured thre of the top four batsmen and then Brayden Hodge who skittled through the batting line up taking 5-51 in what was a great all round effort for the day.
The Molesworth train continues on its merry way. The side will now have a week's rest and a wait to see who its opposition will be after Richmond/Cambridge and Montagu Bay battle it out this Saturday in the preliminary final.

Bushy Park started the first semi-final in style racking up the terrific score of 4 for 276 off its 50 overs. This was mainly due to an excellent century by Mitch Crosswell who belted a fine 107. Crosswell put on a 121 run partnership with Damien Madden who also did well with the willow making 51. Keeper Shaun Fenton continued on his merry way with another fine score of 55 not out.
In reply, Runnymede was 5-81 before the heavens opened up and one would say that they were in big trouble regardless. Mitch Crosswell capped off a top effort taking two wickets as did Dylan Grant.
Bushy Park will now play DOSA in the preliminary final on Saturday for a spot in the big one against Derwent.
Scores: Bushy Park 4 for 276 off 50 overs (32 extras) had a wash out with Runnymede 5 for 81 off 21.2 overs (14 extras) at Bushy Park. After the previous week's qualifying final loss, Molesworth II responded in a big way thrashing McRobies Gully by 100 runs at Boyer Oval on Saturday. Winning the toss and batting first, Molesworth hit up the big total of 9 for 253 due to a great innings of 87 from Chris Slater. Slater smashed 4x4s and 7x6s in a great display of batting. Jye County 35 (3x4s and 1x6) and Brad Ransley 24 (3x4s) also did well with the bat as did the whole batting lineup.
In reply, McRobies was bundled out for 153. Jye County 3-37 bowled very well as did Sam Triffitt, Aaron Triffitt and Josh Bomford who all took two wickets apiece, while Brad Ransley captured the final wicket to secure victory.
Molesworth II will now play Dynnyrne this Saturday for a spot in the big one the following week.

Fifth Grade first semi-final
After the previous week's qualifying final loss, Molesworth II responded in a big way thrashing McRobies Gully by 100 runs at Boyer Oval on Saturday. Winning the toss and batting first, Molesworth hit up the big total of 9 for 253 due to a great innings of 87 from Chris Slater. Slater smashed 4x4s and 7x6s in a great display of batting. Jye County 35 (3x4s and 1x6) and Brad Ransley 24 (3x4s) also did well with the bat as did the whole batting lineup.
In reply, McRobies was bundled out for 153. Jye County 3-37 bowled very well as did Sam Triffitt, Aaron Triffitt and Josh Bomford who all took two wickets apiece, while Brad Ransley captured the final wicket to secure victory.
Molesworth II will now play Dynnyrne this Saturday for a spot in the big one the following week.

Scrub fire at Glenfern
A VEGETATION fire at Glenfern near New Norfolk is being brought under control by the Tasmania Fire Service. Two heavy tankers, two light tankers, two medium tankers and a personnel carrier are at the scene of the fire, which is estimated to cover an area of about seven hectares.

Locals tipped in cricket finals
DERWENT Valley Gazette cricket columnist Quick Single has tipped all three Derwent Valley teams participating in week two of the Southern Cricket Association finals this weekend.
- Molesworth I to its winning run, defeating Richmond/Cambridge in a nail-bitter tomorrow (Saturday). Jake King will have a day out with the willow, while Dean King will thrive on the challenge and contain the opposition batsmen in a fiery spell taking four wickets. This 2nd Grade second semi-final will be played at Richmond at 10.30am.
- In the 3rd Grade first semi-final tomorrow, Bushy Park to defeat Runnymede easily. Damien Madden and Dylan Grant to get amongst the runs and Mitch Crosswell to terrorise the opposition batting line-up and take six wickets. Young Blake Howlett to also get amongst the wickets.
- In the 5th Grade first semi-final at Boyer Oval tomorrow, Molesworth II to defeat McRobies Gully easily at home. Jacksyn Mann to post a big total and Aaron Triffitt to get amongst the wickets with a 5-for.
It's a blast at Westerway
FORESTRY Tasmania has advised that blasting will take place at Hall's Quarry near Westerway later today (Friday). A single blast is scheduled to occur between 11am and 2pm, about 3.5km away from Westerway.

Second Grade Qualifying Final
A 20-run win over Montagu Bay last Saturday sees Molesworth I now one win away from its fifth straight grand final. In nice weather for cricket, Molesworth won the toss and had first hit on the big Boyer Oval, making the defendable total of 9 for 196 from its allotted 50 overs.
Batting at number six, Nick Piuselli made a welcome return to form, top-scoring with a well made 50. Brad Coppleman can do no wrong this season and made 44, while youngster Josh Ransley contributed 30 down the order. After missing the previous week's match, captain Jamie Adams made a solid 30, while opener Cody Neads got 15.
In reply Montagu Bay gave it their all and could have pulled it off, but when all seven Molesworth bowlers took wickets it wasn't to be. Jamie Adams led from the front taking 2-30 while Dean King also took two wickets, finishing 2-38 from 10 overs in yet another good spell of bowling. Brad Coppleman again showed his worth with the ball, taking 1-21 from his 10 overs.
Molesworth is playing some very good cricket at the moment and will be keen to take on Richmond/Cambridge in the Second-Semi this weekend.

Third Grade Qualifying Final
Playing on the small Shoobridge Park ground, Bushy Park went down DOSA by 23 runs on Saturday. The home side won the toss and had first knock, making the good score of 8 for 298. Captain Troy Smith took 3-47 from his 10 overs to be the main wicket taker for Bushy Park. Opening bowler Nathan Grant was next best, taking 2-52 from 9.
In reply Bushy Park was in a sound position and looking the goods at 5 for 237, but then lost 5 for 37 to be all out for 275, just 23 runs shy of DOSA's total. A superb 91 by Bushy Park's Mitch Crosswell gave his side every chance of victory. Opener Troy Smith also did well with the willow, making 62. Crosswell and Smith put on a 94-run partnership. Shaun Fenton has found some form of late and made a good 38, while Dylan Grant got 27 and brother Nathan made 26. It was a great effort by the Park boys as it's never easy against DOSA at home, especially in a final, but giving 44 extras to the opposition didn't help things any.

Molesworth II went down to the Knights by six wickets at Collinsvale. Winning the toss and batting first, Molesworth made 10 for 155. Sam Triffitt made a quickfire 46, hitting to all parts of the ground. Batting at number nine, Chris Slater did likewise and made 36 while Brad Ransley was next best with 20.
In reply the Knights made light work of reaching Molesworth's total, knocking it over off just 19.4 overs. For Molesworth, Sam Triffitt collected 2-25 while Jye County 1-33 and Chris Slater 1-51 got the other two wickets.

The players had a barbecue and were presented with their trophies at the change of innings of the SCA Second Grade qualifying final between Molesworth I and Montagu Bay. After this they finished their day by cheering Molesworth I to a very good victory.
The Gretna Cricket Club's junior trophy day will be held this Sunday at Gretna, starting at 10am. Team photos will be taken and all Under 13 and Under 15 players are asked to be in their cricket uniform.

To mark 31 years since the sad loss of his brother Graeme, Robert Jaffray has introduced this tournament to the Tarraleah golfing calendar. Graeme Jaffray was a local lad from Wayatinah, son of Robert and Chloe Jaffray. They were a family of Hydro workers and keen golfers. Graeme was a keen pennant golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends and colleagues at the Tarraleah course. He was killed in a car accident, at the age of 24, on a Friday night on the return trip home from work.
The Graeme Jaffray Memorial Trophy tournament will be held annually. Contact Tarraleah Golf Club for more information.

New Norfolk I finished its season in style with a good 50-run win over Campania at Campania. The Red Caps lost the toss and were sent into bat, making 10 for 192 off 42.5 overs. Captain Rohan Heron opened the batting making 34 (four 4s) while coach Dave Maddox made 30 (three 4s). Aaron Drew got 25 and Stewart Rice 19. In reply Campania was all out for 142 in 29.3 overs. Stewart Rice used his experience capturing 5-48 off nine overs in a great display of bowling. Brad Kemmler 2-4 off 2.3 and Kendall Bluett 2-34 off 6 did well while Josh Dykes picked up the other wicket 1-30 off 9. While New Norfolk won't play finals, it has preformed very well in its first season in the highest grade of the competition.
SECOND GRADE - Saturday
Molesworth I continued on its winning way with a good five-wicket win over Gretna I in the Ben Eyles Memorial match. Gretna was sent into bat and was bowled out for 108 off 30.1 overs due to some great bowling from Molesworth's Dean King who together with stand-in captain Brad Coppleman tore through Gretna's top order to have the home side 6 for 60. King was awarded the Ben Eyles Medal for player of the match and finished with figures of 4-22 off 6 overs, while Coppleman took 2-19 off 7. From there Brayden Hodge cleaned up the tail taking 3-12 off 5.1 overs. The other wicket was a runout. For Gretna, Todd Jarvis 27 runs and Jack Gregson 23 were the only batsmen to have any impact. In reply, Molesworth got the runs. Corey Ransley claimed all the wickets, finishing with 4-26 off 10 overs. Craig Cunningham got the last wicket, getting 1-4 off 2 overs. Molesworth finished 5 for 109 off 23.3 overs, Daniel Adams top-scoring with 29 runs (4 fours) and Brad Coppleman capped off a good game with 28 which included 5 fours. Molesworth will now have the double chance to grab a shot at winning the big one, while its mothballs for Gretna until next season.

Bushy Park had a seven-wicket win over Gretna II at Bushy Park. Winning the toss and batting, Gretna made 7 for 174 off its allotted 50 overs. Captain Damien Hack made 53 opening the batting, while down the order the vintage Brian Smith received a sporting guard of honour from the Bushy Park players and again top-scored with a fine 55 not out. Smith hit 8 fours and a six, bringing up his fifty with a great pull shot for off the bowling of paceman Mitchell Crosswell. Young Ryan Emery in just his second match made 21 not out with 4 fours, putting on a very good 40 run partnership with Smith. Spinner Nick Fenton was Bushy Park's main wicket-taker with 2-32 off 10. In reply Bushy Park chased down the runs with seven wickets in hand, finishing 3 for 175 off 25.2 overs. This was thanks to a great knock from Shaun Fenton who made a fine 77 not out. Fenton put on a great partnership of 106 with Dylan Grant who made 25 not out. Openers Troy Smith 32 and Nathan Grant 16 also did well. Brock Nichols was the main wicket taker for Gretna with 2-52 off 7 overs while Zac Crosswell took 1-20 off 6 overs. Well done to Jordan Hastie for playing his 50th game with Gretna II.

In its final match for the season, New Norfolk II went down to Bagdad by just one wicket at Tynwald Park. Sent into bat, the Red Caps made 9 for 193 off 50 overs. Ashley Morgan 69 (six 4s, one 6) and Stephen Nichols 49 (five 4s) did very well for their side. Leigh Berry chipped in with 26. In reply Bagdad just got over the line finishing 9 for 194 off 47.5 overs. Captain Josh Walsh 3-36 off 10 and Mitch Rice 3-50 off 8.5 led the way with the ball. While Ashley Morgan capped off a great day taking 2-27 off 10 with his spinners and Leigh Berry got 1-20 from 5 overs. This side has a lot of youth and will take plenty of experience from this season to next.

In a great all-round performance from Jye County, Molesworth II booked itself a qualifying final spot with a big 137 run win over Richmond/Cambridge at Richmond. County made 48 with the bat and then went about dismantling the opposition batting line up, taking 5-22 off 10 overs. County has turned it on of late and with finals starting this weekend, what a good time to be in good form. Brad Ransley, also in good form, top-scored with a fine 64 not out which included 4 fours and 2 sixes. Josh Bomford made 23 while Nick Piuselli made 22 and Molesworth finished 9 for 218 off 50 overs. In reply, the home team was all out for just 81 off 25.2 overs. Alongside County's five wickets, Jordan Eiszele took 2-6 from 2.2 overs and Aaron Triffitt got 2-42 off 10.

Remembering Leigh Martin
July 25, 1952 – February 21, 2015
MORE than 400 people paid tribute to former New Norfolk newsagent Leigh Martin, filling St Matthew’s Anglican Church to overflowing for his funeral last Friday. All sectors of the Derwent Valley community were represented, including business, civic and sporting, as well as long-term friends and customers and representatives of the Mercury and The Gazette. Those seated in a marquee outside the church were able to see the entire funeral service on a large television screen.
Leigh Douglas Martin was the youngest child of the late Lance and Amy Martin, of Glenorchy. At the time of his birth in July 1952, his brother Garry was 11 years old and his sister Carol was eight. “Carol remembers her little snowy-haired brother bringing so much joy and love into their home,” the Reverend Celia Hooker said while delivering the eulogy. “This little fellow was the apple of his mother’s eye … his dad called him Wick and he became his right hand man,” Mrs Hooker said.
Leigh attended Glenorchy Primary School and Claremont High, and although he wasn’t a particularly keen student he was the leader of the pack and always had friends around. “Even as a child he didn’t have a lazy bone in his body and this never changed,” Mrs Hooker said. “He loved going wood-hooking with his dad [and] there was one occasion when his dad was not well and stayed in the truck. Aged about 14, Leigh cut 10 ton of wood and drove the truck back home. Even up to recent times, Leigh’s favourite tool was the chainsaw.”
On leaving school Leigh found work as an apprentice printer at Cadburys, where he met Pauline Excell who worked in the factory’s film room. They married at St Mary’s Church in Springfield in 1971 and eldest son Mathew was born in the same year. Four decades later the couple would still be seen holding hands. “Pauline said Leigh could roar like a lion but in actual fact he was a cuddly teddy bear with a heart of gold,” Mrs Hooker said.
Leigh was working hard in those early years of the 1970s. As well as his job at Cadburys he worked nights at a printery and was in the Army Reserves. He eventually left Cadburys and bought a concrete truck and worked hard at that business for about two years. Younger son Andrew was born in 1977 and it was at this time that Leigh took over the Claremont Newsagency which he ran for three years before joining his brother Garry and Mary in the New Norfolk Newsagency. Leigh and Pauline took over the business in 1992 and ran it for more another 20 years until passing it on to Mathew and Leoni in 2013.
As the boys grew up, Leigh took them to their sports but his real passion was to take them fishing and camping. He was in the gun club, served as a justice of the peace and was a member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed golf and playing cards. For a number of years Leigh was the organiser of the Christmas giveaways that drew thousands of people into High St and he was always supportive of local authors and locally-produced books, generously providing prime shelf space in the shop.
In the last decade or so he enjoyed building townhouses and units with Rob Wardlaw and Paul Clark. A tribute from Mr Wardlaw was read at the funeral service, describing a 35-year partnership in fishing, camping, property development and friendship. “Our fishing trips were planned weeks in advance, right down to a full menu for the whole week. ‘Leroy’ loved his cooking and nobody was allowed anywhere near the kitchen or barbecue,” Mr Wardlaw recalled. “We would quite often stir Leroy about pre-heating the dinner plates – you would either burn your hands or the placemat. I can finally tell Leroy now that everyone else did know how to cook – we just couldn’t get a look in.”
Other tributes were paid by Leigh’s niece Michelle Ryan, son Andrew, and brother-in-law and fishing mate John Excell. Mrs Hooker said she hoped Leigh’s strength during the difficult times of his illness would be remembered with admiration. “He continued to display an amazing positive attitude. When he was being driven home for the last time he saw people picking blackberries on the side of the road and told Pauline that they needed to pick some too,” Mrs Hooker said.
Leigh Martin is survived by his wife Pauline, sons Mathew and Andrew and their families.

UNDER 13: In a great match on Sunday, New Norfolk 6-122 off 25 overs defeated Gretna 9 for 91 off 25 overs. Coby Kemmler did very well with the bat, making 29 not out while J. Bearman 21 and Josh Cantrell 19 not out also did well.
The main wicket taker for Gretna was Sam Jackson who took 2-4 off two overs. In reply Gretna also did well, Tyron Bailey top scoring with a fine 19 not out. Sam Jackson capped off a great day making 10 not out which included hitting his first-ever four. Top job Sam! Jacob Blackwell 9 not out and Tyler Scanlon 9 both did well also. Zayde Hill took 3 for 5 off three overs and Teagan Kemmler 2-19 off two overs were New Norfolk's main wicket takers.
UNDER 15: In a close match at Boyer Oval, Gretna had a one-wicket win. Needing just one run to win with one wicket in hand, Gretna's last batsman Andrew McKenzie hit the winning runs in a real nail biter. Molesworth had first hit, making 10 for 98 off 33.5 overs. J. Bearman top-scored with a well-made 14 while J. Fisher was next best with 13. Jake Campbell 3-12 off 5 and Hannah Mann 3-9 off 4 were the best of the Gretna bowlers. With the bat, Gretna made 9 for 100 off 34 overs. Blake Mayne batted very well making 30 and Jake Campbell made 18. J. Bearman for Molesworth had a great day, bowling extremely well and finishing with 4-26 off 8 overs. J. Lester and J. Nichols both picked up two wickets each.
The New Norfolk v Tas Uni match did not eventuate as Uni was unable to field a side. This was a real pity as New Norfolk really was looking forward to playing.
These were the last matches for all juniors this season and what a great season it has been. All players should be proud of their efforts.

Mobile office heading to Westerway

Essentially a large truck with a "pop out" office, the mobile service centre travels through rural and regional communities to provide personalised face-to-face access to information and services.
Staff on board the mobile service centres can provide information, assistance and support to older Australians, families, students, jobseekers, people with disability, carers, farmers, and self-employed people.
The vehicle will be parked near the Westerway Roadhouse between 9am and 2pm this Wednesday, March 4, after which it will be heading off to the West Coast.
Autumn gardens open today
Rosedown, 134 Hamilton Rd, New Norfolk
This charming rose and perennial garden is romantic in design and relaxed in style, surrounding an historic 1840s riverside cottage. The garden is set against towering gums and planted with hundreds of colourful and perfumed roses including many David Austin cultivars. At 1.82 hectares (4.5 acres), this is a large garden with lots to see. Hedged grass paths weave among fine specimen trees and vine-covered arbours. For this opening, roses, hydrangeas and perennials including dahlias, rudbeckias, penstemons and Michaelmas daisies are at their peak.
Donnybrook Gardens, 10 West St, Maydena
About 50 minutes west of Rosedown is the second open garden. Don Graham retired to Tasmania in 2003 to pursue his love of photography and bushwalking. He bought a garden at Maydena which he named "Donnybrook" after the picturesque stream that bisects the garden. He began work on the gently sloping 0.6 hectare (1.5 acre) garden and soon began to indulge his passion for plants, particularly roses but also bulbs, perennials and rare plants. Each year Don has added more plants to the garden, which now includes more than 200 rose varieties. There are plants in bloom from late winter to late autumn. Plants in flower now include liliums, dahlias and roses. He wonders what’s happened to his bushwalking and photography plans!
