Memorial trophy played at Tarraleah

Robert Jaffray Jr, left, with Robert Jaffray and Chloe Jaffray.
THE sun was beaming down on the upper Derwent Valley when golfers to teed off at Tarraleah Golf Club on February 21 for the Inaugural Graeme Jaffray Memorial Trophy.

To mark 31 years since the sad loss of his brother Graeme, Robert Jaffray has introduced this tournament to the Tarraleah golfing calendar. Graeme Jaffray was a local lad from Wayatinah, son of Robert and Chloe Jaffray. They were a family of Hydro workers and keen golfers. Graeme was a keen pennant golfer and enjoyed playing with his friends and colleagues at the Tarraleah course. He was killed in a car accident, at the age of 24, on a Friday night on the return trip home from work.

Family, friends, workmates and locals gathered in perfect summer conditions to complete 18 holes and share lunch. The day finished with the presentation of the Graeme Jaffray Memorial Trophy Shield to Robert Jaffray, son of Robert and Rosalie Jaffray and nephew of Graeme. The family couldn’t be prouder of the result and the success of the event. They would like to thank all participants and Sue and Tony Wilson for the donation of a prize. The support of the local community and Tarraleah Golf Club was greatly appreciated.

Results - men’s gross: George Lane, 79; Men’s nett & overall winner: Robert James Jaffray, 66; Women's gross: Sheryl Hilder, 93; Women's nett: Linda Lacey, 85; Nearest to the pin, men: Craig McPherson; NTP, women: Linda Lacey; Pro pin: Brett Hilder.

The Graeme Jaffray Memorial Trophy tournament will be held annually. Contact Tarraleah Golf Club for more information.
