Aird sets the date

DERWENT MLC Michael Aird today announced that his resignation from the Legislative Council would take effect from March 31. “When I announced my intention to retire from politics, I said my resignation would be timed to fit in with the Legislative Council elections on May 7,” Mr Aird said. “By resigning on March 31, the Tasmanian Electoral Commission will have the necessary time to issue writs for the seat of Derwent,” he said. Nominations will close on April 14 for the election to fill the vacancy, and the candidates will be named on April 15. Polling day will be Saturday, May 7.
