Willow Court report on the table

Mayor Martyn Evans receives Malcolm MacDonald's report
THE long-awaited business and development plan for Willow Court was presented to the Derwent Valley Council at a closed meeting last Thursday night. The council voted to receive the report and proceeded to endorse a motion from Councillor Damian Bester seeking to make the report available to the public.

Consultant Malcolm MacDonald's 115-page report includes a consolidated summary of a series of plans, reports, studies and documents commissioned by the council over the last 10 years. It also provides a business strategy for the re-use of buildings in the area known as the Barracks precinct, and a step-by-step development plan for the staged restoration of the site over the next five to seven years.

Significantly, the report's principal finding is that the scale and complexity of the Willow Court project does not represent the core business of the council. Instead, Mr MacDonald recommends transferring the site to an independent body with an expert board.

Copies of the report will be available from the Derwent Valley Council Chambers. The council is expected to meet with its Willow Court committee in the near future to discuss the report and agree on its implementation.
