COVID-19 ADVICE: The following links provide official advice and information about the virus known as COVID-19.
Australia's state and federal governments are taking action to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Use the links above to source the latest advice about what you can do to protect yourself and others. Washing your hands for 20 seconds is one of the most effective forms of infection control. Do this after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing; after close physical contact with anyone who is unwell; after using the toilet; before and after eating; before, during and after preparing food; and after feeding or touching a pet.

2018 Christmas Calendar

AS usual there's a lot happening in the Derwent Valley in the lead-up to Christmas and the New Year. Here's a calendar of Christmas events coming up.

  • December 14 (Friday): Carols in the Park, Tynwald Park, New Norfolk, presented by the Lions Club of New Norfolk. Free children's activities from 6pm; carols from 8pm. Food and drinks available.
  • December 15 (Saturday): Speedway, Sorell Creek, gates open from 3pm. Karts racing at 4pm and main track action from 6pm. Children's activities, fireworks and a visit by Santa. Cancelled due to rain.
  • December 15 (Saturday): Ellendale Community Carols. Children's games on the oval from 4pm, with a fundraising barbecue at the hall. Christmas carols from 6pm and a visit by Santa afterwards.
  • December 16 (Sunday): Carols service, St James the Less Anglican Church, Osterley, 11am.
  • December 16 (Sunday): Christmas Celebration at St Matthew's Anglican Church, Bathurst St, New Norfolk, 7.30pm. Choral celebration by the St Matthews Singers and Derwent Valley Community Band, plus community carols singalong and supper afterwards.
  • December 23 (Sunday): Carols service, St Mary's Anglican Church, Gretna, 10am.
  • Christmas Eve, December 24: Carols service for children, St Andrew's Anglican Church, Ellendale, 6pm.
  • Christmas Eve, December 24: St Peter's Catholic Church, Hillside Crescent, New Norfolk, Family Mass at 6pm, Midnight Mass at 9pm.
  • Christmas Eve, December 24: Salvation Army, Hamilton Rd, New Norfolk, carols and nativity at 7pm.
  • Christmas Eve, December 24: St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Bathurst St, New Norfolk, service at 11pm.
  • Christmas Day, December 25: St Matthew’s Anglican Church, Bathurst St, New Norfolk, service at 9.30am.
  • Christmas Day, December 25: Christmas Day service, St John's Anglican Church, Ouse, 10am.
  • Christmas Day, December 25: Christmas Day Mass, St Colman's Catholic Church, Ellendale, 11.30am.
  • Christmas Day, December 25: Free Christmas lunch at the War Memorial Hall, Circle St, New Norfolk. Noon-3pm. For more information, to request transport or to make a booking (to assist with catering) phone  0429 611 528 or 0408 003 635.
