NEW Norfolk I’s winning run came to an end on Saturday when the Red Caps went down to Wellington by two wickets at Tynwald Park last weekend. The visitors sent New Norfolk into bat and they made the good score of 9-212 from 50 overs. This was helped by Jordan Willoughby’s 94 from
147 balls. Willoughby put on 92 with Matthew Bowden who made 48 from 55 balls. Captain Jason Rigby got 24 from 22 balls. In reply, the Warriors just got home, finishing with 8-213 from 47.5 overs. Seb Wishart got 2-22 (10), Jye Lester 1-28 (5.5) and Matthew Bowden 1-45 (10).

Second Grade

GRETNA I made it three wins in a row when it defeated Richmond/Cambridge by nine wickets at Gretna. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat but couldn’t withstand the Gretna bowlers and were dismissed for just 67 from 37 overs. Craig Cunningham, in his 200th match for Gretna I, turned it on for the third week in a row — this time with another excellent spell of bowling , taking 4-10 off 9 overs (three maidens). Aaron Maddox was also very tight in a great spell, taking 2-11 (8) with three maidens, as was Corey Ransley with 1-14 (10) and stand-in captain Zac Crosswell with 2-27 (10). One batsman retired hurt. In reply, Gretna finished with 1-68 off 17.2 overs. Rhys Browning was
again among the runs with a polished 33 not out. Craig Cunningham remained 24 not out. For the past three matches, Cunningham has made 80 runs and taken 12 wickets — not a bad return.

Molesworth went down to Derwent by nine wickets in the match at North Warrane Oval. Winning the toss and batting , Molesworth was bowled out for 81. Liam Triffitt top-scored with 19, while Brad Coppleman made 18, Sam Triffitt 17 and Josh Ransley 11. There were five ducks. Derwent finished 1-83 off 15.4 overs. Jeremy Nichols bowled 1-13 (3).

Third Grade
NEW Norfolk I had a very big win over Campania at Campania, winning by 191 runs. The Red Caps batted first and made the big score of 8/271 from their 50 overs. Opener Leigh Berry made a good 41, but then it was the lower-order batsman that piled on the runs. Aaron Drew did very well at No. 8, scoring 62 runs. Jye Bearman made 30, Ryan Banks-Smith 23, Jamie Hill 21 not out and captain Josh Walsh 19no. In reply, the home team could not withstand the New Norfolk bowling. Richard Graham tore through the batsman, finishing with the excellent figures of 5-19 from 7.2 two overs. Stewart Rice was good also, sending down 10 overs to take 3-28 with three maidens. Morgan-Coleman did his bit with 2-19 (6). Campania were all out for just 80 runs from 26.2 overs.

Fourth Grade
GRETNA II recorded its first win of the season with a four-wicket victory over Claremont at Abbotsfield Park on Sunday. Winning the toss, Gretna sent the home team into bat, making 7-191 off their 50 overs. Jake Campbell bowled well and was the main wicket taker with 4-36 (10). Spinner Wade Gleeson made the early breakthroughs , taking 2-31 from five overs, and Ross Langford took 1-28 (10). In reply, Gretna had stability in its top order, with Mathew Burns building the innings with a well-made 55. He put on 39 with Brian Smith, who made a welcome return with 42. Burns then put on 55 with the cool-headed Josh Whitford-Marriott who got 28. In reply, Bushy Park was all out for 100 from 25.3 overs. Openers Troy Smith with a good 49 runs and Geoff Crosswell with 19 were the top scorers. This Saturday, Gretna allrounder Mathew Burns will play his 400th match.

In the other match, New Norfolk III went down to St Annes at Cadbury’s by 12 runs. The home team had first knock, making 7-202 . In reply, the Red Caps gave it a good shake only to be dismissed just shy, finishing all out for 190 off 46.2 overs. Openers Chris Ashcroft with 46 and Steve Sillifant with 35 got the team off to a good start. Down the order, Corey Field made 30 and at No. 10 Rhys Franklin put on some partnerships and remained 20 not out. Earlier with the ball, Craig Dale with 2-32 (10) and Rhys Franklin on 2-50 (7) were the main wicket takers.

Seventh Grade
MOLESWORTH II kept its winning run going when it defeated St Anne's by seven wickets at Boyer Oval. The win was due to some great bowling by spinner Kye Tomkinson, who sent down eight overs to bag 6-21 in a terrific spell. With the visitors playing one short and another retiring, they finished 8-40 from 16.2 overs. Tyson Grey got 1-17 (8) and David Adams 1-1 from two balls. In reply, Molesworth got 3-41 off 8.4 overs. David Adams was the main run-scorer with 12.

Bothwell II lost to Sorell by just 14 runs at Sorell. Having first hit, Sorell made 5-172 from 40 overs. Mathew Glover did well with 3-40 from 8 overs and Stuart Eyles got 1-13 (4). There was one run-out by Simon Eyles. In reply, the Bucks fell just short and were bowled out for 156 off 39.1 overs. Brad Eyles top scored with a well-made 40 from 77 balls. Opener Simon Eyles got 17 and Michael White 16.
