A REMARKABLE piece of New Norfolk history has turned up for sale on eBay with an equally remarkable price. A Melbourne seller is seeking a starting bid of $99.99 for a printed invoice from the Hospital for the Insane, New Norfolk (now Willow Court).
Dated October 1864, the invoice for £7 10/- (about $16) appears to be for one month's "medical treatment and maintenance" for a private patient named Leake. It was promptly paid by cheque a few days after being issued.
The item can be viewed here. Readers can decide for themselves whether the seller is "dreaming".

ReplyDeleteInteresting to know the story behind tho
Typo in last sentence in second last para: "It was promptly paid by cheque a few days after being issues." The word "issues" should be "issued".
