Young Eagles into grand final

IN a great display of four-quarter football, the New Norfolk Under 14s cemented a spot in the grand final by defeating Sorell by 47 points at the TCA ground on Sunday. The Eagles led at every change and never looked like backing off.

New Norfolk led by seven points at quarter time and then kept Sorell scoreless in the second quarter to lead by 22 points at the main break. At three quarter time they had kicked further ahead to lead by 31 points. In the final quarter the Eagles hit top gear, kicking 3.1 to Sorell's three behinds.

The Eagles' teamwork and pressure was the difference between the two teams. The tackling was relentless to say the least. Nathan Wakefield was again at his best, finding the footy from all parts of the ground. His never-say-die attitude was adopted by the entire team.

Josh Berry dished up a football lesson to all his opponents. His marking down back and run-on play into the forward line was terrific. Josh Challenger once again moved up another gear, thriving on any challenge. After coming back from injury, backman Brodie Gleeson played an excellent game. Given the task on Sorell's best player, Brodie's pressure was a pleasure to watch.

Brayden Chaplin again held his own, taking many marks and setting up goals all day. Zoe Thurston was back to her best and also kicked a goal. Jack Evans kicked a great goal as did Charlie Stewart. Josh Whitford-Marriott was again damaging up forward as were Aaron Thorpe and Jahrod Locher, Jahrod's long bomb in the last quarter went straight through the middle.

New Norfolk will now play Brighton in the grand final. The venue will be announced during the week. It was great to see the number of supporters at the TCA and I urge you all to bring along all your family and friends to help get the young Eagles over the line.
