Bushfire Watch & Act Message

MEADOWBANK RD, MEADOWBANK

Current from: 29/02/2012 10:47AM until: 29/02/2012 7PM or further notice

There is a large bushfire at Meadowbank Rd, Meadowbank.

The fire danger rating in this area is forecast to be low-moderate. Fire under these conditions can be controlled.

This fire may affect the residents along Rockmount Rd and along Ellendale Rd, from Gordon River Rd north to Jones River Rd over the next 2-8 hours.

This bushfire is currently not controlled.

There may be embers, smoke and ash falling in the area along along Rockmount Rd and along Ellendale Rd, from Gordon River Rd north to Jones River Rd.

Reported road closures: Meadowbank Rd

What to do:
  • You need to start taking action now to protect you and your family.
  • Check your bushfire plan now; well constructed and prepared homes are defendable in these conditions.
  • If you don’t have a bushfire plan or your plan is to leave, prepare to leave for a safer place, such as a relative or friends place away from the area.
  • Consider leaving the affected area if conditions worsen if the path is clear.
  • Non-residents should stay away from the affected areas.
  • Stay informed in case conditions change
  • Monitor ABC Local Radio & http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/ for further instructions

  • When reviewing or developing your bushfire plan, if your planning to stay, below is what a bushfire is like.
  • As the fire approaches, it may become increasingly smoky and difficult to see and breathing may be uncomfortable.
  • The closer the fire gets the hotter it will become and burning embers may be falling around you will be able to hear the fire roar.
  • As the fire approaches your home, the radiant heat from the flames may become unbearable and you will need to shelter inside.
  • Wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself, ie long pants, long sleeve shirt and sturdy boots.
  • After the fire front has passed, extinguish any fire spots around your home, check gutters, roof space and under house.
  • Remember, it will be very hot, smoky and windy outside, even after the fire has passed.
