Washing your hands for 20 seconds is one of the most effective forms of infection control. Do this after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing; after close physical contact with anyone who is unwell; after using the toilet; before and after eating; before, during and after preparing food; and after feeding or touching a pet.

Diamond jubilee events

TWO events will be held at New Norfolk on Monday to celebrate the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. “Council believes that it’s important to commemorate this occasion, and has planned events that will allow the community to be involved,” said Derwent Valley Council general manager Stephen Mackey.

The events this Monday, February 6, will commemorate the queen's accession to the throne in 1952.
  • At 1.30pm there will be a tree-planting in Arthur Square, New Norfolk. The ceremony will also feature a piper to commemorate this historic occasion. New Norfolk's two longest-serving doctors, Micheil Sweet and Ralph Peters will unveil a plaque in Arthur Square to record the event for posterity.
  • At 7.30pm there will be a free concert in the New Norfolk War Memorial Hall, featuring the Derwent Valley Concert Band - all welcome.
The Derwent Valley Council is working toward acquiring some English trees to be planted as a copse to further commemorate this occasion. “It’s not every day that our community has the opportunity to help celebrate a milestone like this, so I would encourage anyone who would like to to attend the ceremony or the free community concert,” Mr Mackey said.
