Charges laid over hotel thefts

POLICE have charged a Rokeby man with a list of alleged offences including two burglaries at New Norfolk's Star and Garter Hotel. Detective Sergeant David Gill said Glenorchy and Bellerive CIB officers had charged the 28-year-old man over a series of business burglaries across southern Tasmania in recent months.

"It’s alleged the man stole bags of coins from the Star and Garter Hotel on two occasions in June 2014. The man was arrested north of Bagdad on the Midland Hwy yesterday afternoon," Det-Sgt Gill said earlier today. The charge sheet includes:
  • 11 counts of burglary
  • 11 counts of stealing
  • Two counts of aggravated burglary
  • Two counts of attempted aggravated burglary
  • Three counts of motor vehicle stealing
  • One count of attempting to unlawfully set fire to property
  • One count of evading police.
