River's up again today

RIVER rises in the Lower Derwent catchment are expected to peak early this afternoon while staying below "minor flood" level. The Bureau of Meteorology says high tidal variations are expected again today, with localised flooding in adjacent creeks and surrounding low lying areas along the lower River Derwent still possible this evening.

Rainfall levels up to 23mm were recorded in the 24 hours to 9am today in the upper reaches of the Lower Derwent river catchments. Additional falls up to 15mm are possible during Sunday, falling as snow above 300 metres.

Catchments are saturated and snow melting is expected to maintain high river levels over the next few days.

Snow covered roads above 200 metres will make driving conditions dangerous during Sunday in parts of the North West Coast, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.

Bush Walkers Weather Alert
for the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts
Issued at 9:02am on Sunday 10 August 2014.
Bush walkers are advised that snow as low as 200 metres is expected during Sunday. These hazardous conditions are expected to occur in the Western forecast district and parts of the Central Plateau forecast district.
The next warning will be issued by 5pm Sunday.

Warning to Sheep Graziers
for the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast forecast districts
Issued at 9:01am on Sunday 10 August 2014.
Sheep Graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected during Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
