Snowfalls close highland roads

Snow and ice will affect all roads above 300 metres in the state during Sunday 10/8/2014 and into Monday. Driving conditions  are likely to be dangerous in parts of the Upper Derwent Valley, Central Plateau, Midlands, North-West Coast, Western, East Coast and South East forecast districts. Motorists are urged to use caution on all elevated roads.

Closed: Lyell Hwy closed between Wayatinah and Mt Arrowsmith (from Queenstown/Lake Burbury). To be re-assessed at 8am 11/8/14.

Caution/4WD/Chains:
4WD vehicles access only for Highland Lakes Rd and Poatina Rd.
4WD with chains only access to Lake Dobson Rd.

Road Weather Alert: for North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts. Issued at 9:53pm on Sunday, 10 August 2014. Icy and snow covered roads above 200 metres will make driving conditions dangerous during the remainder of Sunday and Monday in parts of the North West Coast, Central North, North East, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts. For information on any road closures, please contact your local council or the police. The next warning will be issued by 5am Monday.

Bush Walkers Weather Alert: for the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts. Issued at 9.51pm on Sunday, 10 August 2014. Bushwalkers are advised that snow as low as 200 metres is expected during the remainder of Sunday and Monday. These hazardous conditions are expected to occur in the Western forecast district and parts of the Central Plateau forecast district. The next warning will be issued by 5am Monday.

Warning to Sheep Graziers: for the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast forecast districts. Issued at 9:50pm on Sunday, 10 August 2014. Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and southwesterly winds are expected for the remainder of Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and East Coast forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions. The next warning will be issued by 5am Monday.
