NEW Norfolk I went down to St Aidan's by four wickets in Southern Cricket Association first grade cricket on Saturday. In the Red Caps' good total of 211, Stewart Rice continued with his good form and made 47 including five 4s and four 6s while Rohan Heron did well with 33. In reply St Aidan's got the total with the loss of six wickets. Kendall Bluett and Jamie Hill were the best of the New Norfolk bowlers with two wickets each.
In the 2nd Grade match at Old Beach, Gretna went down to the home side by 50 runs. Old Beach made the great score of 263 while Gretna did well making 213. For the batsmen, Rhys Browning and Craig Cunningham made welcome returns to form with 66 and 39 respectively while Glenn Blackwell made 38. Corey Ransley and Mathew Burns were the main wicket takers for Gretna with three each.
In the match at North Warrane, Molesworth had a great win over St Aidans by 34 runs with Jamie Adams the difference between the two teams. Sent into bat, the visitors made 8 for 231 off their 50 overs with Adams top-scoring with 71, hitting eight 4s in a good batting display. Jake King gave good support with a well made 48 (5x4s and 1x6). In reply St Aidan's was bowled out for 197. The home team just couldn't handle the Jamie Adams show as he finished with the excellent figures of 10 overs (seven maidens) 3 for 16. Brad Ransley also did well taking 2-18 as Moleworth continues on its merry way.
In 3rd Grade, Gretna had a big loss to DOSA at Gretna. The home side made 170 with captain Damien Hack top-scoring with 45. Newcomer Jack Gregson made a quickfire 41 and put on a great 57-run partnership with the ever-improving Mathew Perotti who did very well and remained 9 not out. In reply DOSA reached the target without losing a wicket. The Gretna bowlers tried hard, but it just wasn't their day.
In the other match in 3rd Grade, Bushy Park got out of jail when it defeated St Anne's by 31 runs. Bushy Park won the toss and elected to bat, but was bundled out for 97. Sixteen was the top score by Nathan Grant. In reply St Anne's couldn't handle the Bushy Park attack led by Nathan Grant who steamrolled the Crows lineup taking 5-28 and the visitors were all out for 66.
New Norfolk II had a good five-wicket win over Montagu Bay in 4th Grade. New recruit Aaron Drew belted the Sharks attack to all parts of Boyer Oval, hitting 10 4s and two 6s in his great score of 90. A special mention must go to young Blake Kemmler who opened the batting and although he made just two runs he hung around for 15 overs. With the ball for the Red Caps, Mitchell Rice showed signs of things to come with an excellent spell of bowling taking 4 for 20 off seven overs. Rice had a big day as he filled in for Rohan Heron in the field for New Norfolk I when Heron had to leave.
In 5th Grade, Molesworth II continued on its merry way with yet another good win, knocking off Bagdad by 40 runs. It was their young guns who did the work with the bat with Jacksyn Mann 33, Tyson Gray 30 not out and Josh Ransley 30. With the ball Larry Menzie took three wickets, but it was again Josh Ransley who stole the show having great figures of 2-9 from nine overs with five maidens. These youngsters have a big future ahead of themselves as they continue to perform week in week out.
