Derwent Valley matches
Round 9
HAVING come into some good form of late, New Norfolk I knocked off Top 5 first grade team Campania by 28 runs on Sunday. The Red Caps have been troubling a few sides of late and having first hit on Sunday made the defendable total of 182. This was thanks to some great batting by Adrian Eiszele with 52 runs and Stewart Rice with 45. Eiszele's stay at the crease lasted 40 overs, which frustrated the opposition bowlers, while at the other end Rice belted three 4s and four 6s. Thanks to some great bowling, Campania was dismissed for 134. Josh Rowlands with 4-24 was outstanding as was Stewart Rice who gave nothing, taking 1-18 off 10 to cap off a great win for New Norfolk.
In second grade, Molesworth I maintained its unbeaten run against Gretna I with a convincing 101 win on Saturday. Batting first, Molesworth made 213 with Brad Coppleman 51 and later Nathan Eiszele 48 doing the damage, Eiszele stuck one 4 and five 6s to all parts of Boyer Oval, while Coppleman hit five 4s and two 6s in a great display of batting. Daniel Browning and Craig Cunningham took two wickets each for Gretna. In reply, Gretna never really got into top gear and was bundled out for 112. Glenn Blackwell showed good signs with 34 while Corey Ransley showed fight with 18. In the end Molesworth showed why they are in the top five with a convincing win.

In fourth grade, an undermanned New Norfolk II went down to Bagdad by two wickets at Bagdad on Saturday. The Red Caps had first dig, making 140, Brendon Skelly 36 and Leigh Berry 26 were the top run scores. In reply Bagdad lost eight wickets in the run chase and could well have lost the match. Leigh Berry and Mitchell Rice did very well taking three wickets each and a special mention must go to Mitchell's brother Nathan who also plays with the Under 15s bowled impressively taking 1-24 off seven overs. Great stuff.
In one of the best bowling performances this season, Molesworth II captain Brayden Hodge went on a wicket taking mission and claimed a double hat-trick to help skittle Richmond/Cambridge for the lowly score of just 43 in fifth grade on Sunday. Hodge finished with figures of 4 for 6 of 2.5 overs. All the Molesworth bowlers did well with Martyn Evans 2-14 off 6 overs, Aaron Triffitt 1-6 off 7, and Josh Ransley 1-5 off 6. Jack Evans also got one wicket. In reply Molesworth lost just the one wicket chasing down the low score with Jake Foster 15 not out and Jacksyn Mann 14no getting the job done. Sounds like it was early drinks for all.
