Minor Flood Warning for the Derwent River


Issued at 4:59pm on Friday 11 May 2018

Flood Warning Number: 5

Minor flooding is occurring in the Styx River and strong river rises have been observed in the Plenty and Tyenna rivers. Minor flooding may develop in the lower Derwent River around New Norfolk overnight Friday into Saturday.
Since 9am Thursday rainfall totals of up to 150mm have been recorded in the lower Derwent River catchment.
Rainfall has now eased, and no significant rainfall is forecast for the weekend.
Strong and dangerous flows are likely to remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment over the next few days.

Tyenna River:

Strong river rises are occurring along the Tyenna River during Friday.

Styx River:

The Styx River at Bruces Bridge exceeded the minor flood level (2.0m) early Friday morning, with the river level now easing.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk may reach the minor flood level (2.0m) overnight Friday into Saturday.
