As usual with most small sporting clubs, plenty of extra voluntary work was necessary to make an improvement like this happen. Huge thanks must go to Roger Manton (Briarbanks Engineering), Ron Moses, Keith Howells, Graeme Jarvis and Darryl Johns.
Results at the end of Sunday's competition, the overall state tower champion for 2011 was our local club member Chris Jenkins with a 49/50 score followed by Stuart Woods, A Grade 48/50; Tom King won B Grade with 44/51 and Des Burrows took C Grade with his 39/50.
The other event on the day was a 50- target down-the-line competition. AA grade went to Kyle Booth with 88/88 (a 50/50 followed then by a shoot-off adding another 38 targets); Tom Jenkins, A Grade 48/50; Neville Shepperd, B Grade 47/50; and Brian Bailey, C Grade 46/50.
The Derwent Valley Field and Game Club Inc is at present the only club in Tasmania with down-the-line, skeet and tower layouts all under the Australian Clay Target Association guidelines plus membership with Field and Game Federation of Australia, and through this the ability to conduct sporting clay target competitions under international rules.
