Derwent and Ouse minor flood warning

Initial Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent and the River Ouse


Issued at 10:34pm on Wednesday 18 July 2018



Flood Warning Number: 1


Minor flooding is expected to develop along the lower Derwent River between Meadowbank Dam and New Norfolk during Thursday afternoon and evening, in response to significant rainfall overnight. Minor flooding may also develop along the River Ouse.
Strong river rises are expected in many River Derwent tributaries, including the River Clyde, Nive, Florentine, Tyenna, Styx and Plenty rivers.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

Strong river rises are expected in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries during Thursday.

River Ouse:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Ouse.
The River Ouse at Ashton may reach the minor flood level (2.40 m) Thursday afternoon.
The River Ouse at Ouse may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) Thursday afternoon.

River Clyde:

Strong river rises are expected in the River Clyde during Thursday.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

Strong river rises are expected in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.

Tyenna River:

Strong river rises are likely in the Tyenna River during Thursday.

Styx River:

Strong river rises are occurring in the Styx River. River levels may exceed the minor flood level (2.0 m) along the Styx River about Bruces Bridge overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is likely along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.10 m) Thursday afternoon.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Thursday evening.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is likely along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) Thursday evening.
