Bureau of Meteorology, Tasmania

Note: This Flood Watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning.

Flood Watch for North West, North and North East, Derwent and Huon catchments

Issued at 9:40 am on Tuesday 24 July 2018

By the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

Flood Watch Number: 4

Minor flooding is possible in catchments in the northern half of Tasmania, the River Derwent and its tributaries and the Huon River from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

A second cold front will cross Tasmania Tuesday, bringing further rainfall.

Most catchments are wet to saturated and some dams are spilling in response to rainfall last week.

Widespread 24-hour rainfall totals of 15-25 mm are forecast in the west and the northern half of Tasmania. Higher rainfall totals up to 50 mm are possible in elevated areas.

Widespread river rises are expected as a result of the forecast rainfall.

Minor flood warnings are current for the North Esk, Meander, Mersey and Ouse rivers. Additional flood warnings will be issued for other catchments if and when required.

Localised flooding is possible in small creeks and low lying areas that receive heavy rainfall.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

South Esk River

Macquarie River

East Coastal Rivers (north of Bicheno)

Ringarooma River

North Coastal Rivers

Tamar (Launceston)

Forth River

Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers

Arthur River

Huon River

Derwent River
