The tour offers a scenic ride past hop fields, historic landmarks and the River Derwent, with the choice of a relatively flat course between New Norfolk and Bushy Park or the quite hilly route to Hamilton.
Now in its ninth year, the event will once again start and end at Kensington Park, New Norfolk, offering riders the choice of three scenic circuits taking in Bushy Park, Ellendale and Hamilton. All escorted by vehicles from Variety's TasBash rally, the routes are:
- 38km from New Norfolk to Bushy Park and Rosegarland and return
- 76km taking into laps of the New Norfolk to Bushy Park circuit
- 106km from New Norfolk to Hamilton and return via Ellendale
All funds raised will support Rotary’s mental health research program and Variety Tasmania’s
programs dedicated to giving children in need a fair go in life.
“We are expecting over 200 riders for this iconic event, from both Tassie and the mainland," Claremont Rotary spokesman Eric Lown said. "We know they will enjoy the beautiful surrounds of New Norfolk and knowing that they will be making a difference for mental health research in Tasmania, and to helping Tasmania’s kids to live, laugh and learn.”
Variety Tasmania spokesman Mohammad Aldergham said the organisation was excited to be partnering with the Rotary Club of Claremont for the event. "We are also extremely grateful to all the riders, volunteers and corporate partners for being part of this exciting event. This is a great example of how like-minded organisations in Tasmania can work together to maximise our impact and reach in the community.”
This event is sponsored by businesses including PMM Real Estate and Visionstream as a way of supporting the Tasmanian community. Entries for the Le Tour de Norfy Cycle Challenge are now open and cost $50 per rider including lunch and spot prizes.
