Southern cricket finals - Week 2

Kookaburra Southern Cricket Association
Men’s One Day matches
Finals - Week 2

FIRST GRADE
NEW Norfolk I bowed out of the finals when they went down to St Aidan's in a thriller by just five runs at Tynwald Park last weekend. In a reduced match of 40 overs due to the ground being damp, the Red Caps fell just short at the last hurdle.

With three wickets in hand and needing 5 to win from three deliveries (with a a tie being as good as a win) captain Jason Rigby - who batted well making 43 not out - just couldn’t get the balls to go where he wanted and the match was over.

St Aidan's had been sent in to bat and made 9/183 from the 40 overs. Jason Rigby bowled very well, taking a wicket with the first ball of the match and finishing with 4-30 (8). Josh Rowlands took 2-38 (8) and effected a run out - one of three for the innings.

For the Red Caps batting, Mathew Bowden did well and made 54 with 5 fours and 1 six. Opener Seb Wishart made 47 from 67 deliveries in a patient knock, hitting 4 fours. Jason Rigby as mentioned remained 43no, hitting 1 four and 4 sixes. Rohan Heron made 14 and young Blake Kemmler who was also the wicket-keeper, remained 8no including a boundary in the second-last over of the match that helped to keep the team in the match.

This was not the result the Red Caps were looking for, but the team should hold their heads high to have made it this far. I’m sure they will bounce back next season.
