Premiership win for young Red Caps

THERE were jubilant scenes at Cadbury Oval on Sunday when the New Norfolk Under 15s defeated Kingborough by eight wickets in the Hurricanes League grand final. With their only loss of the season also being against Kingborough, the young Red Caps were out to turn the tables - and turn them they did.

With the Knights winning the toss and batting first, the New Norfolk bowlers needed to make a big impact and they didn’t let the team down.

Cameron McMaster sent down three overs to capture 3-9 in a great spell that got his team in a good position. Jack Morgan-Miller, who normally bowled spin, turned his hand to pace and captured 2-5 from 2.3 overs.

Opening bowler Chris Hall was very economical with 1-1 off three overs while captain Luke Jarvis bowled two overs taking 1-2 with one maiden and Tom Eiszele took 1-15 (3) and Kingborough was bowled out finishing 8/85 off 25.3 overs.

Chris Hall scored 57 not out in a match-winning innings.

In reply, the Red Caps wasted no time and chased down the target with ease, finishing 2/90 off just 9.1 overs. Opener Chris Hall had a real day out, blasting 57 not out off just 31 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes. Hall’s innings was one of great poise and shot selection and by all reports was a pleasure to watch. Jordon Gittus gave great support, making 16 from just 15 deliveries including 4 fours, while Luke Jarvis made 8.

It was a fitting end to the season for this team which has really put in the hard yards. Well done to you all and well done to Adrian Eiszele in his role as coach and to Josh Walsh as the junior development officer and Under 13’s coach. A fine effort from you both.

Mention must also go to Under 13s players Tom Murray and Zayne Field who stepped up and as a reward picked up a premiership medal. Both players a part, with Zayne bowling 3 overs 0-13 and Tom playing as the wicket keeper and taking two catches.
