Lions Club News: Swimming pool support

A happy sausage sizzle customer being served by Julie Triffett,
Roger Triffett and Fiona Cardwell at the Lions Club barbecue.
LAST Saturday saw New Norfolk Lions Roger, Fiona, Viv and Howard supporting Councillor Julie Triffett and the New Norfolk Swimming Pool Committee with a sausage sizzle to raise funds for a parenting room.

The warm, sunny day brought the crowds to the High St market and it was a great success. The Swimming Pool Committee, a Special Committee of the Derwent Valley Council, plans to build a Parenting Room to complement the current gender-specific change rooms.

At the moment mums can help their daughters in the female change rooms and dads can help their sons in the male change rooms. The new Parenting Room will provide a gender-neutral space so that either mum or dad can help their children whether they are daughters or sons. We all want to keep our kids safe and supervised and the Parenting Room will help.

Initial funds have been set aside in the Council Budget and the committee needs to raise $30,000. They are submitting grant applications and you will see them fundraising locally. Please support the Pool Committee for this worthy cause.

Our next sausage sizzle is on Australia Day which is just around the corner. The Lions Club of New Norfolk is once again pleased to be part of the Derwent Valley Australia Day celebrations at the Esplanade on Sunday from 10am until 2pm.

We will be serving our delicious beef and pork sausages, caramelised fried onions, soft fresh bread and an array of flavoursome sauces. In addition, this year we will also be serving delectable vegetarian sausages which will be gently cooked on a separate barbecue. It’s all free of charge, courtesy of Derwent Valley Council.

We look forward to watching the Australia Day Fun Run and Walk, hearing Rosie Martin, the Derwent Valley 2020 Australia Day Ambassador and congratulating the Australia Day Award winners. Some of us might even enter the colour run!

Come along, wear your sunscreen and thongs and join in the fun. Enjoy our sausage sizzle and say g’day to a local Lion. Lions Australia – We Serve (more than sausages).
