Man charged over supermarket burglary

POLICE have charged a man with motor vehicle stealing, and burglary and stealing following an incident at New Norfolk early on Thursday morning.

A Tasmania Police spokesman said a 36-year-old man had been charged after the Value Plus Supermarket at Fairview was burgled.

"Shortly before 3am on Thursday, two people forced entry to the store and stole a large amount of cigarette packets," the spokesman said. "About 5am a white Subaru wagon was reported stolen from a nearby residence."

"After conducting inquiries and searching a property in the New Norfolk area, police recovered the car and a quantity of cigarettes before arresting and charging the man with motor vehicle stealing, burglary and stealing."

The investigation to identify and locate the second suspect is ongoing.
