ABC live from the Valley

ABC Local Radio will broadcast live from Ellendale this morning, following yesterday's transmission from Sorell and in advance of a program from Bicheno this afternoon. These broadcasts form part of the national broadcaster's response to the bushfire emergency throughout Tasmania.

Joel Rheinberger will broadcast from Ellendale from 11am and Penny Terry will be on air from Bicheno (near the surf shop), from 2pm. Listen live on 936AM or via the webstream at http://www.abc.net.au/hobart/?ref=nav

ABC News yesterday reported that Derwent Valley farmers were counting the cost of the Lake Repulse fire that broke out on Friday and remains uncontrolled. Hamilton farmer Matthew Pitt said several of his neighbours lost homes, sheds, fences, livestock, pastures, and cherry, wheat and poppy crops.
