Nationals leader in the Valley

Warren Truss
ACTING Federal Opposition leader Warren Truss is this morning visiting bushfire-affected areas of the Derwent Valley. Mr Truss is accompanied by State Opposition Leader Will Hodgman, Tasmanian Liberal senators and MPs.

The group will meet Ellendale farmers Jim and Pip Allwright whose property was badly damaged in the bushfires. Early estimates suggest the family has lost more than 4000 acres of cherry, poppy and vegetable crops, with the damage bill expected to climb as high as $1 million.

They will also visit the Tasmania Fire Service staging area at Hamilton, as well as looking at fire damage through Dawson’s Rd and Jones River. Also on the itinerary is Ellendale Fire Station and fire-damaged Rockmount Rd before returning to Hobart and on to Dunalley.

Mr Truss is a Queensland farmer and leader of the National Party.
