Ouse, Ellendale, Meadowbank on alert

Lake Repulse Road , LAKE REPULSE  
 
Current from: 03/01/2013 3:05PM until: 03/01/2013 6:00PM or further notice

There is a large bushfire at Lake Repulse Rd, and Dawsons Rd, LAKE REPULSE .

The fire danger rating in this area is very high. Fire under these conditions can be difficult to control .

This fire may affect the communities of Ouse, Ellendale and Meadowbank within the next hour. Areas north of Hamilton may be affected late this evening or tomorrow.

At 6pm changing weather conditions will create a heightened threat to homes in the Ouse and along the Lyell Hwy up to Ellendale Rd.

This bushfire is currently not controlled.

There may be embers, smoke and ash falling on Ouse and Lyell Hwy south to Ellendale Rd.

Reported road closures: Dawson Rd, Ellendale Rd and Lake Repulse Rd at the Lyell Hwy junction.

Campers and bushwalker in the area of Repulse Dam and Meadowbank Dam should leave the area immediately if the way is clear.


What to do:
  • You need to start taking action now to protect you and your family.
  • Check your bushfire plan now; well constructed and prepared homes are defendable in these conditions.
  • If you don’t have a bushfire plan or your plan is to leave, prepare to leave for a safer place, such as a relative or friends place away from the area.
  • Consider leaving the affected area if conditions worsen if the path is clear.
  • Non-residents should stay away from the affected areas.
  • Exercise caution when driving.
  • Stay informed in case conditions change
  • Monitor ABC Local Radio & http://www.fire.tas.gov.au/ for further instructions
Community Information:The fire continues to burn in a southerly direction and has crossed areas of Dawsons Rd. People need to use extreme caution when traveling in these areas and should turn on their headlights.
