Southern cricket

Round 13 results

BOTH Bushy Park and Gretna II suffered losses in round 13 of the Southern Cricket Association last weekend. Bushy went down to the Knights by 48 runs at Cosgrove High School. The Knights having first hit made 7 for 258, with Mitchell Crosswell picking up three wickets, Shaun Fenton 2 and Trent Grant 1. Bushy Park did well in the run chase but was eventually bowled out for 210 off 41.3 overs. The Bushy Park batsmen got started but just couldn't go on with it. Captain Fenton top-scored with 40 runs. Dylan Grant was the next best with 32 and Geoff Crosswell made 31.

Gretna II lost its fifth match in a row, going down to the Marquis Tigers by two wickets. Gretna made 10 for 124 off 41.4 overs, Adam Browning top scoring with 23 not out while opener Jordan Hastie made 22. The Tigers started well in the run chase and at one stage were 3 for 93, but then lost 5 for 21 to be eight wickets down and 10 runs needed. The Gretna bowlers tried desperately to snare the final two wickets, but it wasn't to be with the Tigers finishing 8 for 126 off 33 overs. Cameron Emery and Adam Browning finished with 2 wickets each while Cody Eyles took 1 for 6 off six overs and Todd Jarvis 1 for 27 off seven. Congratulations to Clinton Millhouse on playing his first game for Gretna.

In 5th Grade, Molesworth II playing with just the 10 players went down to the Montagu Bay Sharks by six wickets. Molesworth had first hit, making 73 off 28 overs. D. Smith top-scored with 13. Ricky Neads and Jye County made 11 each. The Sharks lost four wickets in the run chase  4 for 74 off 18 overs. Brad Kemmler took all 4 wickets with figures 4 for 42 off eight.

New Norfolk II had the bye.

In 2nd Grade, Gretna I all-rounder Mathew Burns smashed his second century for the season in his team's win over Runnymede at Gretna on Saturday. Burns hit 12 fours and 3 sixes in his 123 runs and shared a 49-run partnership with captain Ben Rainbird who made 68 and then shared a 104 run partnership with Glenn Blackwell who made 33. Burns has been in excellent form this season and if this continues Gretna will look to play a big part in the finals which are just around the corner. Gretna had first hit and posted the big total of 9 for 283 off their 50 overs. In reply Runnymede looked good early and at one stage were 4 for 166, but were eventually all out for 224 in the 40th over. Craig Cunningham continues to shine with the Kookaburra and picked up 3 for 31 off seven overs. Peter Jelkic took three wickets for 42 off seven.

Molesworth I smashed Bagdad at Boyer Oval, skittling them out for just 83 with Ricky Martin bowling extremely well with figures of 4 for 13 off 10 overs - six of these were maidens. M. Siely bowled well, collecting 2 for 20 off 10 overs, while Dean King finished with 1 for 11 off seven. In reply Molesworth lost just the two wickets chasing down the small total finishing 2 for 90 off 14 overs. Ricky Martin again led from the front, making 38 not out to be the best of the batsmen. His innings included 4 fours and 1 six. Brad Ransley and Brad Coppleman both made 14.

New Norfolk I went down to the Montagu Bay Sharks at Tynwald Park by 63 runs. The Sharks made 165 off 49.3 overs, Josh Dykes did very well taking 4 for 22 off eight overs as did Ashley Morgan taking 2 for 29 off 10. New Norfolk lost wickets regularly in the run chase and was bundled out for 102 with none of the Redbacks batsmen firing. Opener Rohan Heron top scored with 23.
