Millbrook fire contained

A VEGETATION fire has been burning at Millbrook Rise on the outskirts of New Norfolk since just before 3pm today. The fire has burnt a six-hectare area of dry grass and scrub in front of the mental health facility off Hobart Rd.

The Tasmania Fire Service reports that the fire has now been contained, thanks the the efforts of nine ground-based vehicles and several helicopters which have been dumping water from the adjacent River Derwent onto the fire.

TFS crews will continue working in the area until it is safe. There may be visible smoke and fire activity within the burnt area for some time. Updates may be available at www.fire.tas.gov.au.
