Finding out that Rose was very passionate about raising awareness of neuroblastoma, members and supporters of the club rallied together. Gold and purple ribbons were made for sale on the day for a gold coin donation. It was heartwarming to see every person — adults and children alike — wearing the ribbons. Members from other clubs also made donations.
At the start of the match, Gretna and the visiting Richmond/Cambridge team and the umpires wore gold arm bands and stood for a minute’s silence in honour of Rose. Both teams donated their ball money to the cause and further funds were raised through a barbecue and spit roast. In total $500 was raised, which was matched by Gretna Cricket Club, bringing the total to $1000 to go towards neuroblastoma research. The support shown by all was just fantastic.
And to his credit, Jackson put in a big effort on the field. To Jackson and family, our hearts go out to you at this sad time and our thoughts are with you.
