Monday: windy weather warning

Severe Weather Warning

for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in the Upper Derwent Valley, King Island, Furneaux Islands, Western, South East, Central Plateau and parts of North East, East Coast and North West Coast Forecast Districts.

Issued at 3:43 pm Sunday, 25 March 2018.
Possible damaging winds on MONDAY for Tasmania until late afternoon.

Weather Situation:
A low pressure centre passing southern Tasmania will bring a strong and gusty southwesterly change during MONDAY morning and afternoon.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90-100 km/h are possible from the early morning on MONDAY in the west, the northeast coast and the Bass Strait Islands, then extending to the far south and the Central Plateau from the late morning.
Winds are expected to ease during the late afternoon and evening as the low moves away.
Locations which may be affected include Currie, Smithton, Whitemark, Strahan, Queenstown, Zeehan, Tarraleah, Hobart, Geeveston, Dover, Huonville and Dodges Ferry.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11pm Sunday.
