Winning the toss and batting last weekend, St Aidan's made 10/148 off 47.3 overs and in reply, New Norfolk chased down the target finishing 7/151 off 47.5 overs. Joe McCulloch batted well and remained 42 not out, hitting four fours and two sixes. Jason Rigby put on a very handy captain's knock of 38 (two fours), while Seb Wishart made 30 (two fours) and opener Matthew Bowden got 16 (two fours).
Earlier, with the ball it was Josh Rowlands doing the damage sending down 10 overs including maiden to take 3 for 19. Rohan Heron had a purple patch, taking 3-7 off just 2.3 overs. Opener Joe McCulloch was tight with 2-19 from seven overs, while Seb Wishart 1-26 (10) and the other opener Jason Rigby 1-30 (10) were good also. In the context of the season, this was a big win for the Red Caps and they will take a lot of confidence into the grand final.
My tip for the first grade grand final is for New Norfolk I to reverse the tables from two weeks ago and upset the more fancied St Anne's outfit. It will take a big effort from the Red Caps, but with their batsmen finding form at the right time and their bowlers fine-tuned, I think the they can pull off their biggest win of the season. St Anne's has made scores of over 300 on four occasions this season, but I’m tipping the final to be a low-scoring affair. New Norfolk captain Jason Rigby should top-score and Joe McCulloch should take some important Crows wickets. The game starts at 10.30am at the Cadbury No. 1 ground.
