THIRD GRADE
New Norfolk II easily defeated Sandford by seven wickets in their Third Grade clash at Tynwald Park. After winning the toss and opting to bowl, the Red Caps bowled out the visitors for just 110 from 39.2 overs. In reply New Norfolk chased down the runs comfortably, finishing 3-115 off 19.3 overs. With the ball it was Zaheer Hussain doing the damage, taking 3-19 from 10 overs, which also included five maidens. Graeme Rowlands also turned in a great performance, taking 2-21 (9.2). Stewart Rice was very tight, taking 1-27 (10). Seb Wishart took 1-3 (3), Nathan Rice 1-16 (3) and Jamie Hill 1-20 (4). With the bat, opener Seb Wishart batted well to finish 68 not out, hitting three fours and three sixes. New Norfolk did everything right, including getting two bonus points in its quest to get into the top four for finals, but it wasn’t to be because Old Beach (fourth) won its match over MacKillop Beltas.

At Boyer Oval, New Norfolk III maintained top spot on the ladder with a four-wicket win over Montagu Bay. The win was thanks to some excellent bowling from the Red Caps attack, led by Mitchell Rice, who sent down 10 overs and took 5-31 . Aaron Drew was also impressive, taking 4-31 from 10 overs. Liam Kalbfell took the other wicket, finishing with 1-8 (1.2) as the Sharks were bowled out for 75 off 23.2 overs. In reply New Norfolk lost a couple of early wickets but got the job done in the end, finishing 6-76 from 17.3 overs. Captain Nathan Heron top-scored with 28.
In the other Seventh Grade match, Molesworth II lost by four wickets against the Knights at Collinsvale Oval. After winning the toss and batting first, Molesworth made 9-110 from 24.4 overs. In reply the Knights reached 6-112 off 27 overs. Batting for Molesworth, young Josh Nichols did very well at No.8, top-scoring with 36, hitting six fours and one six. Opener Brad Coppleman made 24 (two fours, two sixes). The other opener, Larry Menzie, chipped in with 24 (five fours). With the ball, captain Jack Evans took 2-19 (7). Larry Menzie claimed 1-1 (3) and also achieved a run-out. Mark Jablonski took 1-23 (6) and Brad Coppleman 1-26 (7). In last week’s Seventh Grade report, New Norfolk III batsman Aaron Triffitt was inadvertently edited out. Triffitt batted very well, top-scoring with 65 when his team beat the Knights by 53 runs at Tynwald Park. His innings included seven fours and one six. He shared a 93-run stand with opener Steven Sillifant, who made 36 (two fours, two sixes).
EIGHTH GRADE
The match between Bothwell II and Claremont at Abbotsfield Park on Sunday was abandoned. This was due to the pitch being underwater from what I’m guessing was from Saturday’s rain, or that the sprinklers had come on overnight?
