The collision was between a white Toyota Camry sedan and a Volvo b-double log truck which was being driven in the opposite direction.
Constable Andrea Perry of Tasmania Police said the driver and sole occupant of the Camry, a 34-year-old male believed to be from New Norfolk, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition. "The driver and sole occupant of the b-double rig, a 63-year-old man from Old Beach, wasn’t physically injured," she said.
As a result of the collision, the truck came to rest on its side, totally blocking the entire road. Pine logs from the rig were strewn over the road and surround. Heavy machinery and vehicles were brought into the scene to remove the vehicles involved and also to remove the pine logs.
The road was closed well into the evening. The Mercury has more.
Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses who may have observed the crash or seen the vehicles immediately preceding the incident. Information can be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au.
