Win for first women's game

WITH women's cricket really starting to take off all around Tasmania, the New Norfolk Cricket Club has created its own piece of history by fielding its first team in a competition.

The team played Wellington at Eady St on March 3 and in a excellent first-up effort defeated the home team by 60 runs. The Red Caps had first hit, making 128 off their 20 overs.

Captain Hannah Mann, who has played a lot of cricket from a young age, top-scored with a fine 36 not out including four fours and three sixes. Lisa East also did well with 21 (three fours) as did Kelly Reed with a handy 14 (one four). I hear Kelly Kemmler has being watching plenty of the Women's Big Bash League and this right-hander gave a very good display of the reserves sweep which was greatly appreciated by the crowd.

In reply, Wellington was bowled out for 68. With the ball, all the bowlers performed very tightly. Gemma Ransley took 3-9 off 3 overs, Amity Booth did likewise 2-4 (3) with two maidens, Lisa East 2-8 (3), Susan Burns 2-9 (2) and Hannah Mann 1-6 (2).

Well done everyone, it’s a big achievement being the club’s first women's team and getting a win is a fine efforts. Well done also to coach Jamie Hill and team manager Brad Kemmler for your roles in getting the team up and running. It’s fantastic to see women's cricket taking off in the Valley.
