Premiership for New Norfolk III

Man of the match Aaron Drew. centre, with Red Caps team-mates.
AFTER yet another solid all-round performance, New Norfolk III has won the Southern Cricket Association Seventh Grade grand final. The Red Caps outplayed Hobart in all departments on Saturday to win by the big margin of 105 runs.

After being sent in to bat on the big Boyer Oval, New Norfolk set the good score of 9-213 off its 50 overs. Losing its first two wickets at eight and 22 runs, the Red Caps steadied with the next four batsmen all putting on handy runs. Man-of-the-match Aaron Drew showed his class with a fine 78, hitting eight fours and two sixes. Aaron Triffitt made 26 (two fours), Coby Kemmler also got 26, hitting one four, and captain Nathan Heron made 20 (one four).

In reply, Hobart couldn’t handle the tight bowling of New Norfolk, with Zaheer Hussain sending down 10 overs to finish with the excellent figures of 4-19 , including three maidens. Opener Stuart Muir was also on the money, taking 3-24 off 9.2 overs. And after doing the damage with the bat, Aaron Drew then took 3-25 from his 10 overs in a great finish to the day. Mention must go to Brad Kemmler, who bowled five overs for just 10 runs.

It was a big season for this side, losing just the two matches in rounds nine and 10 then winning the next six in a row. Well done to all involved — I’m sure the celebrations went right through the weekend.
