Time for counting (now the dealing's done)

WITH the 2018 State Election now run and won, many groups and individuals will be eagerly awaiting the funds promised to them during the campaign.

A grant of $800,000 for the second stage of the Maydena Bike Park was stated to be a done deal as part of the government's Cycle Tourism Strategy when announced in January, but a further $7.8 million for various local projects was dependent on the Liberal Party being returned to office. These include (let us know if we've missed any):

Mt Field National Park approaches: Improve Glenora Rd, including the surface quality, road edging and drainage. This road, between New Norfolk and Bushy Park, has had an increase in traffic volume in response to the growing popularity of the Mt Field National Park area, and is also a key access for primary producers in the region. ($2.5 million, no timeframe specified).

New Police Station for New Norfolk: Provide an around-the-clock permanent police presence in the New Norfolk area and build a brand new police station to house the four extra police officers. ($0 in 2017-18; $2.5 million in 2018-19; and $2.5 million 2019-20).

Better New Norfolk to Hobart bus service: Buses will depart every 30 minutes on weekdays during peak times and hourly for the rest of the day, increasing from the current 25 services every weekday to 34 services. Weekend services from New Norfolk to Hobart will increase significantly from 18 services to 23 on Saturdays and from eight to 13 on Sundays. (Funding and timeframe not specified).

Boyer Oval grandstand upgrades: $100,000 (no timeframe specified).

New Norfolk security cameras: Additional cameras in the town centre. ($50,000, no timeframe specified).

Derwent Valley PCYC - Sustainable Business Model: Provide support towards the current programs and activities and development of a Sustainable Business Model for the Derwent Valley PCYC. ($60,000 in 2017-18 financial year).

New Norfolk Youth Drop-in Centre - New furniture and equipment: Support towards new furniture and equipment for the New Norfolk Youth Drop-in Centre. ($8000 in 2017-18 financial year).

New Norfolk Men’s Shed - building works: Support towards building works for the New Norfolk Men’s Shed. ($12,000 in 2017-18 financial year).

Magra CWA - sculptinof ANZAC figures: Support towards sculpting of ANZAC figures from two macrocarpa trees outside the old Magra State School for the Magra branch of the Country Women's Association. ($15,000 in 2017-18 financial year).

Magra CWA - heat pump: Support towards a new heat pump for the Magra branch of the Country Women's Association. ($8000 in 2017-18 financial year).

Derwent Valley Railway: Access to a section of the Derwent Valley Line between the Back River Rd and Third Avenue level crossings, to undertake necessary track works in the immediate vicinity of New Norfolk Station. These works will be the next step in enabling Derwent Valley Railway to gain greater access to the Derwent Valley Line, subject to the approval of the National Rail Safety Regulator. ($25,000 as soon as possible after the election).

Hamilton Agricultural Show - infrastructure updates: including new seating and display areas. ($15,000, no timeframe specified).

Bushy Park Show Society - new equipment: $12,000 (no timeframe specified).
