Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 10:38 am on Tuesday 16 July 2019

Flood Warning Number: 5
Minor flooding is occurring in the lower Derwent River below Meadowbank Dam with a minor peak expected Tuesday afternoon. Minor flooding is also occurring along the Styx River. 
Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to River Derwent at Macquarie Plains and New Norfolk during Tuesday and Wednesday.
River rises are continuing in the upper Derwent, Nive, Ouse, Florentine, Tyenna and Plenty Rivers.
Additional river rises are likely from Wednesday, based on forecast rainfall.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises are continuing in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries.

River Ouse:

River rises are occurring along the River Ouse. Lake Augusta is spilling in the upper catchment.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.24 metres and rising. The River Ouse at Ashton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 m) during Tuesday.
The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Tuesday.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are continuing along the Florentine River and the middle reaches of the River Derwent.

Tyenna River:

River rises are continuing along the Tyenna River.

Styx River:

Minor flooding is occurring along the Styx River. The Styx River at Bruces Bridge is currently 2.12 m and falling. River levels are expected to ease below the minor flood level (2.0 m) during Tuesday.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.31 metres and rising. River levels are expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Tuesday. A minor peak between 4.50 and 4.80 metres is likely Tuesday afternoon.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.95 metres and rising. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Tuesday and Wednesday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

River rises are continuing along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.35 metres and rising. The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Tuesday and Wednesday.
