Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent
Issued at 1:37am on Thursday 18 July 2019
Flood Warning Number: 7
Minor flooding is occurring in the lower Derwent River below Meadowbank Dam and additional rises are expected due to recent rainfall and snowmelt. Minor flooding may extend downstream to Macquarie Plains and New Norfolk from Thursday afternoon.
Renewed rises are also occurring in the upper Derwent, Nive, Ouse, Florentine, Styx, Tyenna and Plenty Rivers.
Additional rainfall totals up to 20 mm are forecast for Thursday.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
River levels are elevated in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries.
River Ouse:
River rises are occurring along the River Ouse. Lake Augusta is spilling in the upper catchment.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.61 metres and steady. The River Ouse at Ashton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 m) during Thursday.The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Thursday.
River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:
River rises are continuing along the Florentine River and the middle reaches of the River Derwent.
Tyenna River:
River rises are continuing along the Tyenna River.
Styx River:
River rises are continuing along the Styx River. The Styx River at Bruces Bridge is currently 1.90 m and steady. The minor flood level is 2.0 m.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.85 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Thursday. A minor peak between 4.90 and 5.20 metres is expected Thursday afternoon.The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 3.42 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) Thursday afternoon.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
River levels remain elevated along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.48 metres and falling. The River Derwent at New Norfolk may reach the minor flood level (2.00 m) Thursday evening with the high tide.Flood Safety Advice:
