Environment, Parks and Heritage Minister Peter Gutwein said the government’s investment of more than half a million dollars into a statewide electric vehicle fast-charging network would stimulate a total spend of over $2.5 million.
"Tasmania has what the rest of the nation needs and wants, low cost, reliable energy and our clean green electricity network is set to power the next generation of vehicles on Tasmanian roads," Mr Gutwein said.
Bennetts Petroleum, operator of Mood Food New Norfolk, will receive a grant of $35,000 from the Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants – Fast Charging program. In a Facebook post, the business said having an electric vehicle fast-charger on site would be benefit the Derwent Valley region. "Thank you to the Tasmanian Climate Change Office for selecting us as a recipient of the Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants."
The other locations will be in Hobart, the Huon Valley, Campbell Town, Elizabeth Town, Swansea, St Helens, Scottsdale, Burnie, Derwent Bridge, Queenstown and Devonport.
"Not only will drivers be able to access 14 new charging stations at 12 different locations, but will be able to charge up in a matter of minutes at several locations, with the rollout of ultra-fast charging stations. The fast charging network will be supplemented by the state’s destination charging stations at businesses, carparks and visitors destinations," Mr Gutwein said.
"Electric vehicles powered by Tasmanian renewable energy have enormous potential to significantly improve the state’s vehicle fleet through reduced costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Through the government’s Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants – Fast Charging program we are empowering more Tasmanians to take up electric vehicle ownership and reduce their carbon footprint," he said.
