Final flood warning for Derwent catchment

Final Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 12:25 pm on Friday 19 July 2019

Flood Warning Number: 9
Minor flooding is easing in the lower Derwent River below Meadowbank Dam. Minor flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk during Friday.
In the 24 hours to 12 pm Friday, rainfall totals between 5-15 mm have been recorded in the Derwent River catchment.
No significant rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Friday.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

River levels are easing in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries.

River Ouse:

Lake Augusta is spilling in the upper catchment and river rises are occurring along the River Ouse.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.44 metres and rising. The River Ouse at Ashton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 m) during Friday.
The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Friday.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River levels are easing along the Florentine River and the middle reaches of the River Derwent.

Tyenna River:

River levels are easing along the Tyenna River.

Styx River:

River rises are occurring along the Styx River, in response to yesterday's rainfall. The Styx River at Bruces Bridge is currently 1.48 m and steady below the minor flood level of 2.0 m.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is easing along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam peaked at 5.04 metres around 08:45 am Thursday 18 July and is currently at 3.90 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to remain around the minor flood level (4.10 m) Friday afternoon. The river level is expected to fall below the minor flood level (4.10 m) Friday evening.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.95 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Friday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

River levels remain elevated along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.12 metres and rising. The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Friday.
