Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent
Issued at 10:25 am on Wednesday 17 July 2019
Flood Warning Number: 6
Minor flooding is occurring in the lower Derwent River below Meadowbank Dam. Rain expected during Wednesday will likely see elevated river levels remain throughout the day.
Flooding is not expected to extend downstream to Macquarie Plains or New Norfolk during Wednesday and Thursday.
River levels remain high in the upper Derwent, Nive, Ouse, Florentine, Tyenna and Plenty Rivers.
Elevated levels are likely to persist during Wednesday and Thursday, based on forecast rainfall.
Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard over the next couple of days.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
River levels are elevated in the upper River Derwent and its tributaries.
River Ouse:
River rises are occurring along the River Ouse. Lake Augusta is spilling in the upper catchment.
The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.68 metres and falling. The River Ouse at Ashton is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.40 m) during Wednesday.The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Wednesday.
River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:
River rises are continuing along the Florentine River and the middle reaches of the River Derwent.
Tyenna River:
River rises are continuing along the Tyenna River.
Styx River:
Water levels along the Styx River have fallen. The Styx River at Bruces Bridge is currently 1.50 m and falling (Minor flood level 2.0 m).
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.50 metres and falling. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to remain above the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Wednesday. The river level is likely to peak between 4.50 and 4.80 metres Wednesday afternoon.The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 3.35 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Wednesday and Thursday.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
River levels remain elevated along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.30 metres and steady. The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) during Wednesday and Thursday.Flood Safety Advice:
