There is a Fire Weather Warning in effect and a Total Fire Ban remains in place until 2am Tuesday. Temperatures in New Norfolk are forecast to begin to drop around 6pm, reaching 25 degrees by sunset and 18 degrees by midnight. Tomorrow is expected to be a partly-cloudy day with a maximum of 22 degrees.
Similarly extreme conditions are being experienced across the eastern half of the state today, with the Derwent Valley, South-East and the entire East Coast being of most concern to the Tasmania Fire Service.
"Our greatest concern today is lightning strikes," a TFS spokesman said. "If lightning strikes hit the ground on your property and a fire starts, please call TFS immediately on Triple Zero (000) so fire crews can attend.
"In extreme conditions, bushfires are very difficult to control, and even homes built to modern standards are very hard to defend. If a fire breaks out you cannot expect a fire truck in every driveway.
"Review your bushfire survival plan and decide now what you will do if a fire breaks out in your area. Stay away from bushland in the highest risk areas. Remember it's a total fire ban until 2am Tuesday for the north and south."
