THE Discovery Ranger Summer Program continues at many national parks, including Mt Field National Park in the Derwent Valley. Several parks including Mt Field also have Mandarin-speaking rangers to highlight the wonders of national parks to Chinese visitors.
Skilled and experienced rangers offer visitors to our national parks the chance to join in a wide range of activities such as guided walks, evening talks, childrens' activities and more. At Mt Field, Discovery Ranger Karina will offer free fun and educational activities at the following dates and times:
Wednesday, January 1
10am - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
1.30pm - Who is eating who at Mt Field? (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Short easy, nearby nature walk with some fun surprises on the way.
3pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): Meet at the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.
Thursday, January 2
10am - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
1pm - Looking at nature from a different perspective (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Bring your camera and learn how to take amazing photographs.
3pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): Campground area. Find out how to make the most of your Mt Field experience.
Friday, January 3
11am - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): Meet at the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.
2pm - Discover the hidden world under Mt Field (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Learn how to become a caver with Discovery Ranger Karina.
8.30pm - Creatures of the night (1.5hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Short and easy night walk. Add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Visitor Centre to ensure your place.
Saturday, January 4
10am - Fun guys and ferns! (1hr): Meet at Tall Trees car park. A short guided walk with Discovery Ranger Karina.
1pm - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
4pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): At the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.
Sunday, January 5
10am - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
1pm - Which trees love fire? (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Join a Discovery Ranger and find out about the battle of the trees.
3pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): At the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.
All activities are free, but normal park entry fees apply. Remember to bring sun and rain protection, sturdy shoes and a hat for all daytime activities. Programmed activities may be cancelled in bad weather or unsafe conditions - check with the Mt Field Visitor Centre for updates. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
