Washing your hands for 20 seconds is one of the most effective forms of infection control. Do this after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing; after close physical contact with anyone who is unwell; after using the toilet; before and after eating; before, during and after preparing food; and after feeding or touching a pet.

Holiday fun kicks off at Mt Field

THE annual Discovery Ranger Summer Program starts at many national parks today (Friday), including Mt Field National Park in the Derwent Valley. 

Skilled and experienced rangers will offer visitors to Tasmania's national parks the chance to join in a wide range of activities such as guided walks, evening talks, childrens' activities and more.

At Mt Field, Discovery Ranger Justine will offer free fun and educational activities at the following dates and times:

Friday, December 27 
10am - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Amazing wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
1pm - Who is eating who at Mt Field? (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Short easy, nearby nature walk with some fun surprises on the way.
2.30pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): At the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.

Saturday, December 28
10am - How climate change might steal your lunch (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. A fun activity for all ages.
11.30am - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Amazing wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants.  Found out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
2pm - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): Campground area. Find out how to make the most of your Mt Field experience.

Sunday, December 29
11am - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): Visitor Centre car park. Find out how to make the most of your Mt Field experience.
12.30pm - Which trees love fire? (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Join the Discovery Ranger and find out about the battle of the trees.
8.30pm - Creatures of the night (1.5hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Short and easy night walk.  Please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Visitor Centre to ensure your place.

Monday, December 30
10am - Mt Field Nature Concert (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. A chance to relax and listen to the voice of nature
11.30am - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): At the Russell Falls track. Discover the best places to find platypus and glow worms along the track.
1pm - Platypus, platypus, wherefore art thou platypus? (1hr): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre

Tuesday, December 31
11am - Chat with a Ranger (1hr): At Mt Field Visitor Centre. Find out how to make the most of your Mt Field experience.
1pm - Discovery and wonder display (2hrs): Meet at Mt Field Visitor Centre. Amazing wildlife, beautiful waterfalls and special plants. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing National Park.
7pm - New Year’s Eve Quiz Extravaganza (1.5hrs): Near Mt Field Caravan Park. Test your knowledge and practical skills at this quiz night.

Further activities continue from January 1-5. All activities are free, but normal park entry fees apply. Remember to bring sun and rain protection, sturdy shoes and a hat for all daytime activities. Programmed activities may be cancelled in bad weather or unsafe conditions - check with the Mt Field Visitor Centre for updates. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
